2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Is Mirai even training anywhere under a coach?

She hasn't said she's coming back for Nationals 2019, and if she's not training for it, I can't see her just showing up willy-nilly and winning---that happens only in the movies.

At 2018 Nationals, when a determined Mirai was training heavily day in and day out, she couldn't beat a revitalized Bradie Tennell, who'd finished 9th at 2017 Nationals. And Mirai didn't beat Bradie at Olympics or Worlds, either.

A year later and Mirai has been away from figure skating pursuing red carpet celebrity post 2018 Worlds, while Bradie has been upping her technical and performance skills.

It may be fun to dream about Mirai returning to claim US gold, but the reality is it takes more than just a dream. Mirai put in a lot of work last year to get to the top, and almost made it, but it seems as if she just stopped at that point. Other skaters, not just Bradie, are putting in the time and energy it takes not only to get as high as they can go, and once they get there, to stay there.

Mirai is currently in Colorado Springs training with Tom. She has had some events, but returns right back to CS as she has all summer. The longest time she’s left was for ice shows in Japan and China.

She could very well decide that she doesn’t want to come back. But that’s her decision. She said she didn’t feel like she would be ready for the fall season because she gained some weight and didn’t think she could be back in shape for the fall.

As far as I’m concerned, Mirai has nothing left to prove. She should skate again this time for just pure enjoyment, without all the pressure and politics.

Sorry for Gabby but very happy for Mariah.

I think this could be a great opportunity for her. It’s not as much pressure as a Grand Prix and let’s her get her free skate out one more time in a big competition setting before her next comp. and if Bradie is going (correct me if I’m wrong), we can see where they stack up against each other and the international skaters.

Despite the free skate at Nebelhorn, I’m thinking (and hoping) Mariah will have a great season.

So there was a truncated article and the headline mentioned Gracie gold as primed for the Grand Prix. Then it went into the us male skaters and cut off before even beginning to discuss the us ladies. Just said to read the full article in the August/September issue. Has anyone read it?

Until I actually see something posted by Gracie or someone on her team, I take all reports with a grain of salt.

You did not give a link for the "truncated article," so I cannot speak to whatever that was.

As for the "full article," I think you are talking about the article in the Aug-Sep issue of Skating magazine -- which had nothing new about Gracie.

It merely rehashed what she had said on her own Instagram and what Hersh already had reported elsewhere.

Chunks of the Skating magazine article have been re-published on Fan Zone, but I have not seen the truncation that you described.

The Fan Zone chunk about the ladies is almost identical to what was in Skating magazine.

Similarly, the Fan Zone chunk about the men is almost identical to what was in Skating magazine.

I suspected as much. That was just the tag for the article and it said nothing about Gracie.

So as of now no one has any idea what music choices Angela Wang and Karen Chen (fs only) picked? No one has seen them practice?

I’m still hoping that Karen isn’t injured! We don’t know anything!

she is injured; she's made at least a couple instagram posts mentioning it. she posted 9/21 she will be getting back on the ice soon after having to take some time off (seems like a good couple months). no idea how this will affect her GP assignments.

In the midst of all the negativity it looks like Ashley Lin had a very solid first outing on the senior level. Did she medal? No. Nor did she crumble. Just did her job. And beat some other international skaters so her performance score will rise.

I guess I saw something different from the judges re: Ashley Lin, I thought her short was grossly underscored PCS.

Good luck to U.S. ladies this week -- Angela, Pooja, Mariah, Bradie, Gabriella. :yay: (Hope that I am not forgetting anyone.)

Here's the link to the article. https://usfigureskatingfanzone.com/...for-grand-prix-campaign.aspx?path=figureskate As you can see, the title makes it sound like there is more info than there is.... Because there is basically no news in it.

That is the same link that I gave in my reply above, and as I said above, I did and do agree that when posted on Fan Zone in September, it had nothing new about Gracie.

(The earlier Skating magazine version really did not have anything new either.)

Doesn't really matter at this point, but what was/is confusing in your previous post is your description of a truncation as the Gracie headline attached to discussion of men without discussion of ladies. What I was saying is that neither Fan Zone article matches your description. (Nor does the Skating magazine article.)

Sorry, it didn’t pull up the same when I found it on the web. The link I got originally was from twitter and it was quite confusing to me too that what I read had nothing to do with us ladies.

I thought we knew the music for both of them. For Angela, I have SP: “Praying” by Kesha, FS: “Send in the Clowns” by Barbra Streisand. And for Karen SP: "Fire Dance" by Jennifer Thomas, FS: "Illumination" by Secret Garden. I don't have the links on hand though.

Check the programs thread. It's probably there.

Oooops, my apologies to Izzo, whose first name I originally misspelled above. :hopelessness: (I now have fixed it.)

And … I forgot to wish good luck to the ladies (and men) competing at regionals this week. :yay:
