2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Just wondering - if Gracie doesn’t finish high enough at Nationals for a bye for 2020 Nationals, she would have to go through regionals/sectionals to qualify?

Doesn’t seem likely she will get assigned more GP spots next year if she doesn’t have the TES minimum :(

She can get assignments without the GP and possible still get a bye.

She could still get a host pic SA assignment.

Plenty of skaters get byes not through nationals placement.

Jason's costumes do detract from his great body lines. Such a waste.

He's 50-50 this year. I think his SP costume looks really sleek and nice. The bowling shirt... well you can't win them all.

Oh wait....I just realize I'm in the U.S. Ladies thread.... So we're talking about Jason's costumes now? Huh?

ETA: Okay, now I get it.

Personally, I think making a comeback when she's not ready is not good for Gracie's confidence. Cos of her depression issue, a bad result will crush her.

She should have done it Takahashi's way. Slowly. Takahashi just participated in sectionals 1st. To qualify for nationals. He won the sectionals.
Takahashi been retired 2014, he made sure he's ready 1st before announcing his comeback.

If Gracie wanted some International competition exposure, do Challenger competitions 1st. After she's at least 70% ready.

She probably need sponsors and doesn't have the funding to wait another year for the next sectionals. Getting to nationals and showing progress with her name will probably lead to some sort of funding help from somewhere. Not everyone can just take their time.

Patrick Chan had the dandruff shirt, some people hated Nathan’s colourblock top for Nemesis, and Hanyu serves a lot of look — but I’ve never seen anyone criticize their choices in a way that implied they were inferior athletes or otherwise physically unsuited for competition.

Guys are also more covered up than ladies, so less room for commentary. If they skated around in shorts that showed their lower butt and clingy material, you bet there would be commentary.

Gracie Golds costume emphasized how out of competitive shape she was and looked uncomfortable to skate in.

ok so in the end her showing is to get a bye for nationals in order to satisfiy her sponsors or get new funding. very understandable. but she is paying a very high price.

imaging you are in her shoes: you know you are not ready. you know everyone is looking at you because you are gracie gold making a big comback at the grand prix stage. you know you have psychological issues. you are in russia. you skate and the result is the worst skate of your life. millions are looking, most of them are shocked others are laughing. how woud you feel? I would be devastated, I would be crushed, I would be ashamed. And its not over yet, the harder part is still comming.

Well she is for sure a much stronger character than me but still I fear this experience will harm her in one way or another.

This thread the last few days has been a radioactive dumpster set on fire with oil from a Long John Silvers.

Shame on the USFSA for giving Gracie Gold a GP assignment in that condition. There had to be a dozen ladies more deserving of that spot.

Have you not read the (probably) dozens of posts relating to how the spot was earned via ISU rules? Nothing to do with USFS.

Looks like Amber had a good short! 66+ score!

So happy for her! Amber is awesome!

And congrats to Hanna Harrell, she’s awesome as well. Just needs more consistency, and she could be a threat!

Poor Pooja. And poor Hannah Miller. Maybe they can move up in the standings with a good fp.

Oh noooo did Pooja do poorly???

She has more potential than most ladies - it will be a huge shame not to see her at Nationals and no shot for Junior Worlds.

She’s currently in 5th place and scored 51.63. ☹️ Maybe she can still make it.
I kinda would like to talk about anything but the other topic that everyone is speculating about.

Poor Hannah Miller may not make nationals for the first time in forever.

Amber needs to realize how great she is, she’s only 19 and can still make a splash, but she’s been trying since 2014 when she burst onto the scene with the highest ever junior nationals score that still holds today.

No, Pooja! I adore her. :( Hope she has a strong FS and can at least move up — not wishing anyone a bad skate, but, well, I’d love to see her do well.

So I hunted down the Sectionals scores on my phone - Amber is so great when she is on, but she is more hot and cold than any other skater I’ve seen. I LOVE her skating but she’s bombed too many times for me to root for her over young talent like Pooja and Hanna. Though I hope to watch her SP later and have my mind changed again.

I love Pooja, but messing up the 3-3 when it’s a 3T-3T is not a good look. She’s generally consistent otherwise. So we will see.

Hanna looks like she was good but not convincingly so. She tends to be hit or miss.

I am most worried about Pooja honestly.
