Mariah and Bradie were strong this GP. Mariah would have medaled at many other GP's with her NHK score. A shame she was assigned to such a difficult GP, oh well. I think they will battle it out at nats.

Not sure I agree with all of Bradie's calls in her LP. I think her 3Lz-3Lo was clean, and the 3Lz-3T was UR on at least one of the jumps (can't remember which one though

She's suffering a bit from her recent reputation of UR. She got some harsh calls on good looking jumps in both programs.

The new UR rule is killing me (and some good skaters). The lack of a quarter turn benefit of the doubt is bad for the senior ladies overall, IMO. Clear URs with over a quarter turn of UR are going overlooked (such as Stanislava in Finland) and skaters with jumps that look fully rotated even in slow-mo are getting hit with calls.

No. She has been 5'6 since 2016. I remember looking it up after seeing her at 2016 nats.

That's kind of a good thing because any one of those other girls could accidentally grow between now and worlds. That's one factor people sometimes seem to forget when claiming this skater or that skater is going to be the next one to break to the top.

I was meaning it in a very tongue in cheek humorous way so I'm glad it got a giggle. What most athletes and coaches will probably HOPE for is to grow in the offseason but growth spurts can sometimes happen mid-season for some of the younger teen skaters. Bradie at 20 I am assuming is already fully grown.
Watching on NBC, I just don't see any underrotation on the loop. (on the combo). smh
When you look at the protocols, it seems as if nearly every one of the ladies gets one or more URs, and that includes many of the top skaters. Really, Bradie didn't get worse treatment than anyone else.

Oh I noticed. Though it's probably a good thing she didn't make the final. Why tax yourself for another comp when placing is probably not in the cards just yet.
Not making the GPF isn't the end of the world but making it would have been a huge deal. Even if she placed last it would have done wonders for her reputation (which is still being built) and her PCS marks (which compared to other newbies from other countries is moving pretty slow) in the future just to be in the final 6. Judges would certainly take more notice of her if she was there and come worlds it could have been beneficial. Like I said its not the end of the world but there are a lot of positive aspects to being there even if your 6th out of 6, especially when you're still young.

I think Bradie is in good shape to be competitive at Worlds. At most, 6 of the 9 women who had better GP seasons will compete at the end of the season. She is on the judges' radar and will have the backing of the USFSA. I'm sure her team is working on fine tuning her programs to minimize the potential for UR calls, as those have been costly for her this season. Like last season, Bradie is the standout going into Nationals this year and I think we'll see her at her best.

That’s where the judging is not making sense for me. I am no Bradie fan for certain, but the 3Lz3R looked around and the edge was also clearer. She should not have been < for that! Ironically, her 3Lz3T was ratified when that one was far more obviously shorter even without slo-mo- if it’s up to me, it even deserves a !. Perhaps it was done on tired legs and Bradie was not as focused on the outside edge. But no, they called the clean loop combo instead of the second suspect combo. The scores probably would not be much different but hey, fair and correct judging makes better sense to spectators.

Good luck to Karen this week in her first time competing since the Olympics, at Tallin Trophy! I’m sure she won’t be at 100% but it’s good that she has the chance to put her programs out there before nationals. If she could get on the podium then we might have to look at her again for our nats predictions. She’s against some tough competitors from Russia, Yi Christy Leung(very consistent on JGP). Ting is also competing! Looking forward to seeing her again as well.
