2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Is he trying to say she’s lost 35 pounds since we saw her in Russia?! Cause that’s extremely worrying if so. Honestly he doesn’t need to comment on her weight at all. Yes we all know figure skaters need to be at a certain weight/size to be successful but that’s why you don’t need to comment on it WE KNOW. And if it’s directed towards the “haters” he mentioned in one of his last posts-we’ll he’s fighting a losing battle there. Every women in the public eye, no matter what she does will be called fat. For Gods sake I remember lady Gaga getting called fat when she played the super bowl a couple of years ago-all because she had the tiniest of stomach pooch from her short wait band. When it comes to weight women cannot win it’s infuriating and sad but it’s something that shouldn’t even be acknowledged

Why in the heck did Vincent feel the need to point out that she is 35 pounds lighter???

Dude, NOOO! Weight is just a meaningless number. Seeing what she can do is enough.

Vincent is bananas.

Someone needs to save Gracie from him. For his social media surrounding her and for allowing her to compete this season.

I don't see the weight comment anymore, did he delete it? Regardless, super happy to see Gracie landing triples, I hope she continues her upward trajectory! And that her coach learns some sensativity.

I would hope her runs by her anything personal he posts about Gracie. It's also possible she's proud of getting fitter but doesn't want to toot her own horn.

Gracie is looking so much better and she gives him the credit. Maybe she likes the way he's handling things. Lord knows that there are many coaches who would take her but, I have feeling she likes the one on one attention she gets from him. She is no longer in a "Stable" of skaters and that must be very comfortable for her. Prying eyes always made me nervous at practice.

From the Jr. Ladies Free:

No 3-3 attempt from Gabriella Izzo, but she has a really solid 3Lz and good basic Skating Skills. Looking forward to seeing her on the JGP again next year. Audrey Shin won the FS and ended up 2nd overall, and her 3lz3t was called clean with ++GOE. She also went for a 2a3t, but the 3t was called under. Audrey really sold the program and had a great Nationals moment.

Yes, the revised caption is similar but does not include the “35lbs” comment anymore.

I agree that it was an inappropriate remark, even if he did run it by Gracie. She’s had a very public battle with an eating disorder. He needs to use common sense. On a positive note, glad to see Gracie landing a solid 3F. From her own Instagram story, she appears to be maintaining a positive attitude and doing well.

Congrats to our Junior Champion, Gabriella Izzo. Not the free skate she was looking for, but a program that enabled her to place 1st nonetheless. Audrey Shin is our Silver Medalist, having placed a disappointing 6th during the short, but came through during her long and placed 1st. Shin completed a 3Lz-3T with positive grade of execution and a 2A-3T. Congrats to all the girls.

The 2A-3T was <. The 3Lz-3T was clean.

No it isn't meaningless number. It is big part of being professional(athletes, dancers, models). But said so in this manner and Gracie's circumstances was very poor judgement.

I have unease feelings regarding his update on Gracie for a while now. He should wait until she is more advance in her comeback stage. She is right now not just ready to be exposed in the social medias. People are far too brutal in their judgements towards top athletes. I as a fan can wait and don't mind she working her way back in private.

I think the 'wait until she is more advance in her comeback stage' went out the window when she went to GP Russia with the performance that she put out, by her own admission she wanted to get something out, even if it was trash (I believe trash was her exact word).

I forgot to include that. Good for Audrey, hopefully she works on her nerves and under-rotations.

She's doing a ton better than before. For the last three seasons she would get sometimes five underrotation calls or more in her FS. She's finally made the podium. Good for her.

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! SP starts tonight!! I’m gonna Uber to the arena super early. Just to make sure I beat rush hour traffic. Is there a place you can wait inside the arena, like a waiting area or a gift shop or something?

Rooting for hanna Harrell and bradie and Starr and Alysa!!!

Calm down. Vincent comes from France; only in America we are so sensitive. He had no negative intentions.

I don't think Vincent had negative intentions at all. But you can be insensitive while having the best intentions.

I don't think i have much expectations at her GP just glad she came back to competition at all. So for me it was neck to neck with watching others having a meltdown over the years. Seeing cruel comments on SMs towards Gracie has been tough though.

I kind of assume that Gracie is OKing everything that he posts?

I hope Gracie is monitoring her weight loss and overall diet/fitness with a nutritionist who specializes in eating disorders. Monitoring one's weight while in recovery can be good in order to ensure that weight is being lost at an appropriate pace.

I imagine that combining elite sport (which kind of requires SOME sort of weight monitoring, a specific diet and training regime, etc.) with eating disorder recovery is really, really complicated. I hope that Gracie has the resources at her disposal that she needs to juggle both and stay healthy.

Regardless, I don't think a coach should ever disclose a skater's weight/weight loss/gain to the public, especially with specific numbers, ESPECIALLY when the skater has struggled with disordered eating.

I like that Gracie is getting healthy and training regardless of weight. But to be honest, I would be fine if she just laid low - no postings, instagrams or whatever. Maybe she likes the attention but really it would be fine at the very least for a while if Gracie just disappeared from social media and focussed on her and what she wants. She has had a crazy two years and really I am not sure put herself out there is always so good unless she loves the limelight no matter what. Even if it is for the coach's sake to get his name out there or whatever I hope it stops. I know there are uber Gracie fans but let her live in peace and show us what she can do on the ice when she is ready and if she wants.
