2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Yay for Hanna too, FINALLY a clean skate that shows her capabilities! So happy! Amber had a great skate too, glad to see so many girls skating to their potential.

the judging was quite harsh on some but not on others. But many skaters skate well, top 6 all clean. I hope Ting, and especially Courtney and Pooja (which i feel both was underscored) can come back in the free.

Considering nationals inflation I can accept Alyssa's 73 and Bradie's 76 but Mariah's 70 was a bit hard to swallow The 3-3 she attempted wasn't even close and also very messy in appearance. I would have put Amber Glenn ahead of her by a few points. But I guess Mariah is being rewarded for the solid GP season so :confused2:

I agree, thought the judging was all over the place, I would’ve thought some scores would be a little different. Hope tomorrow goes well for all the skaters and they are scored accordingly.

I agree with this 100%! I love Mariah's skating and all but tonight imo Amber was better :scratch2:

Overall, this is the best Ladies SP at Nationals in quite some time. Each of the top 6 were stellar in their own right. Bradie was very strong, much improved over last year. Super happy to see Amber Glenn pull through with a clean skate tonight. Hanna Harrell wins best jumps - they were soaring. And what a fabulous surprise to see Emmy Ma in the final FS warm-up. She is so committed to her music.

I am sad for Ting, yet not surprised. Paraphrasing Jackie Wong, something mental changes when the music comes on, even in practice. Hopefully, she can use this to learn and grow and come back with a strong free skate.

I think Bradie had a score she truly deserves; Alyssa got a PCS boost, but her technical score is HUGE! I do think Amber Glenn did better than Mariah. Mariah is clearly a bit shaky in her jumps: her 3t was under rotated in real time, and Amber was very solid. Maybe the hype of her being the national champion is working in judges' head.

Johnny was right when he said she just seem to give up on the jumps. It looked like she just sat down on them almost in slow motion. No fight to save them which is part of the mental game as well. I think her inexperience shows in that aspect and hopefully she grows and learns

They're are taking chances. They want Bradie and Mariah to go to Worlds. Amber is too risky.

Well they could have judged what was on ice at this competition and put Amber ahead of Mariah (as in my opinion they should have) but then use the "body of work" excuse and send Mariah to worlds couldn't they? :scratch2:

either way its only the SP and we still got the LP so it may not matter in the end

after that impressive sp i was looking at alysa's wiki page and it's kinda wild to me that her dad had 5 kids via egg donor? how do people even learn about something like that lol

and i really loved bradie's skate, im probably one of the few who liked the ice princess thing she had going on but this is so much more captivating.

What an amazing group of athletes. Alysa was the highlight, of course. The 3A, the reaction near the end, and the crowd’s thunderous cheers created a truly magical moment. Additionally, Bradie came out to FIGHT and her jumps were very consistent (even in practices) and I’m so happy that she really let go and “performed”. As for Mariah, she will always have a special place in my heart because she’s so talented and really wants to win. I truly hope she comes out like a beast during the long program. Then there were Amber and Hanna... phenomenal skaters. Hanna’s height on her jumps is astonishing and Amber’s interpretation was exquisite. Nevertheless, I was quite disappointed by Ting because I don’t want her to be another head-case because she’s the total package but with a missing ribbon to tie it together. I pray and hope that she begins to become consistent because we’re going to need it if we are to get 3 spots back. The U.S. may not be on top in ladies figure skating as if now, but it’s up and coming athletes may change that.

Wow, I'm so impressed with the performances in the SP! Alysa did great and was so sweet, Bradie came out fighting and killed it, Mariah's program suits her so well, Amber gave a stellar performance, Hannah's jumps are crazy good, Emmy did well and was so adorably happy about it, and Megan really attacked (her SP is kind of my fave.) I was sort of expecting a ho-hum event, but these ladies were like, NOPE! Can't wait for the LP!

I was looking over the SP protocols, and noticed that J8 accidentally entered a GOE of -2 for Bradie’s fantastic combination spin, which was marked as a deserved +5 by the rest of the panel. In this case, it did not affect the score because as the low mark it is dropped and all the other marks were the same. However, in a sport of hundredths, it always baffles me that these mistakes are not caught. There should be a failsafe that prompts the judge to double check the mark when it is that far away from the panel average (7 GOE increments, in this case).

Mariah seems physically incapable to do a triple-triple right now, which is slightly concerning. She's actually been jumping and skating quite decently overall, it just seems like a triple-triple isn't something in her arsenal right now. She did do one at nebelhorn to be fair, her first attempt of the season, but other than that it's all be major URs.

Anyways, she does not have one planned for the free, and she does not need one to make the Worlds team with Ting's low score.

Maybe she doesn't need one to make the podium but just how is the US going to get the 3rd spot back with a skater who can't do 3-3's? Mariah is a nice skater but limited technically which is always going to hold her back. And if Glenn somehow skates clean Mariah may not even make the podium because i'm sure Glenn has a 3-3 in her LP.

This really was one of the best short program events in nationals history and I’m very happy about it. Nobody (except Ting and yes I’m very sad about her) has disastrous skates. Even girls that were near the bottom maybe missed one jump but recorved on the last two. The top 6 were all STELLAR, and Pooja deserved a much higher score with another clean skate to add to the group. I just checked and last year there were a ton of scores in the 40s. This year, only one and way more higher end 50s for the lower level senior skaters. It was an exciting event and I really hope the ladies keep it up in the free. Would especially love to see everyone in the top 6 skate well.
