2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Does Amber Glenn have a chance to get a GP next season? Or at least a senior B ?

I think she does.

Last year, I thought both Angela and Courtney would have to take their chances as alternates. But USFS pulled some strings to get them each their own GP slot. This year, Amber showed great promise. Especially with her SP score of 70. I think she should be in the top 75, so I think they may pull some strings for her.

I’m betting on Orser coaching Alysa for a few weeks/months during the off season. She’ll probably go to the same jump trainer as Rika to solidify her Quads (4Lz, 4T, and 4S). Wish her the best, she’s a fierce young lady.

I think there might be so many Japanese and Russian ladies that can’t get GP spots that, depending on how high Amber is ranked on the SB list, will allow her to get a spot.

I think the USFS will work some magic and get Amber, Starr, Lin, Megan, and Izzo Grand Prix spots.

Grand Prix Assignments Predictions
- Bradie: Skate America & 1 other
- Mariah: 2
- Ting: 1 definitely, 2 if she does well in her 1st
- Starr: 1 and 2 if someone withdraws
- Lin: 1 or host spot
- Amber: 1 or host spot
- Megan: 1
- Izzo: 1 or host spot

Junior Grand Prix Predictions
- Alysa: 2 definitely
- Hanna: 2 definitely
- Calista: 1 and 2 if she does well
- Kate: 1 and 2 if she does well
- Lindsay: 1 or host spot
- Shin: 1 or host spot
- Inthasone: 1 or host spot
- Murdock: 1 or host spot

One thing’s for certain though, the ladies will be packed and sent to more competitions. USFS is sending people to more competitions and is starting to expose its young talents to international competitions early on. This season, most of the top ladies had 5+ international assignments (Starr had 6 or 7) and even the novice and junior ladies had 2 or 3. I think it’s a good development moving forward.

Izzo is behind Kalyan on the SB list.

Ting will get 2 GPs for sure. Those in the top 24 SB pretty much always get 2, and even if she didn't I'm sure the US would give her a second spot at SkAm given her junior worlds medal and potential. Senior GP spots are always predetermined too, not contingent on how well you do in your first one unless you're a super last minute replacement.

Amber will be #83 on the WR list after it is purged (she is #101 now), and she is #63 on the SB list. Not good for getting GP invitations.

But if she does well in summer competitions, she could get a B or Challenger assignment as she did last year---she had a good summer and was sent to Lombardia.

With Amber's talent she should not be scraping for GP spots like she always seems to be doing every season. Makes you wonder if she will ever get it together before this new crop of girls pass her up for good.

Izzo is unlikely to get a GP invitation, as she is #78 on the SB list---too far down to even be considered for a GP invitation. Unfortunately, B events like Egna, which she won, do not update the SB list. The current WR list will be updated for Egna; Gabriella will be #126 (but #96 when the list is purged). Her only hope is SA host pick.

I wonder if Kalyan is doing okay. She withdrew from Nationals due to injury and hasn’t really done anything since. Hopefully she gets a consistent 3Lz.

I'm wondering about Polina Edmunds and Kaitlyn Nguyen. Recently, Polina posted videos of herself doing triples on Instagram. Back in December, Kaitlyn posted videos of herself doing triples and a combo (triple lutz and 2A3L combo, IIRC).

I'm anxious to see if either Polina or Kaitlyn show up for any of the summer club comps.

But Izzo is not aging out of juniors yet? According to her isu bio, she's born in August 2001. I would expect to see her doing 2 JGPs plus a senior B (or two) next season, like she did this season.

Also, I think you meant that she's currently #126 on the WS list? Because the WR list is irrelevant for GP selection.

I would expect her on the JGP as well.

I assume Pooja is healing, which is what she should be doing after an injury. The fight to make the JGP and/or any host spots on the GP will be this summer.

Between winning novice nationals and this competition on junior, and considering the US has 14 JGP slots next year, I'm 99.9% sure she will get one, if not two assignments.

Calista has a lot of potential. It's worth noting she trains with Bradie Tennell.

she does have a lot of potential, and nice jumps. i bet they would look amazing with rippon arms like Ting's.

I noticed she needs to work on her posture and the stretch/finish in her arm movements, but hopefully that will come with time.

Wow, I saw that Karen followed Cornell on IG but I didn’t see it in her bio. Good luck to her

2 IvyLeague Chenz (pretty good for an old person, and no, I didn’t see it anywhere else although I’m sure someone has beaten me to it:biggrin:)
