2018-2019 GP Assignments

Usually the top seeds can pick where they want to go and their choices are honored, as long as HOST PICK doesn't come into play.

The top seed gets first choice, but in this case, probably can't choose NHK, as Japan will obviously pick at least one of the #2 or #3 seeds.

Seed #2 gets to pick whatever seed #1 didn't pick, and seed #3 gets what's left over.

Seeds 4-6 have no choice of where they go unless they are host-picked.

If Kostner is retired, not sure what happens with that seed spot (may go to 7th place finisher).

Thank you for explaining me it's true that sometimes we get lost
I think Carolina did not retire after the world championship but who knows
I hope that this time the JFS will not reproduce what they did for the distribution of the china cup, it was heartbreaking to see three Japanese fight.
What is good is that last year we could see new head as valeria mikhailova thanks to the invitations of federatoins.

Maybe the word trade is a bit too strong, let's say negociation ? Who wouldn't want to get Yuzuru at his GP ?

It is just that I have bad antecedents with Japanese federation, they obligated to Mao to train in dreadful conditions in Armenia during Sochi when Mao wanted continue in Japan, and well, we all know to Didier, I imagine these situations:

NHK to P/C: I invite you to NHK, do you want?
P/C: yes
Didier to Yuzuru: I invite you to France.
Yuzuru: No thanks.
Didier to JFS: But P/C are going to NHK, we want to Yuzuru
JFS to Yuzuru: you should go to France, they are sending to P/C
Yuzuru to JFS: But I don´t want plastic stars :sad21: and in 2016 the half of the rink was a lagoon, I prefer Canada or Russia.
JSF to Yuzu: stop of complains, you are going to France, done!!:curse:

2nd option:
NHK to P/C: I invite you to NHK, do you want?
P/C: no thanks, I want China
Didier to Yuzu: I invite you to France.
Yuzuru: yes thanks.
JFS to Didier: But Yuzu is going to France, we want to P/C
Didier to P/C: you should go to NHK, they are sending to Yuzuru
P/C to Didier: I love China, I don´t want NHK
Didier to P/C: stop of complains, you are going to NHK, done!! :furious:

3rd option (ideal):
NHK to P/C: I invite you to NHK, do you want?
P/C: yes
Didier to Yuzuru: I invite you to France.
Yuzuru: No thanks.
Didier : okay
(Same the contrary with P/C)

Is Karen Chen not in the top 24 SB list? I’m not doubting she’d get two GP’s it just surprises me.

she's 35th in the Season Best list.
She'll be in the top 24 of World Standings, therefore she has a guaranteed spot but 99.999% she will get 2.

if it's like last year, if someone retires, #7 gets seeded

From ISU communication regarding 2017/18 GPs: "If any vacancies (less than 6 Seeded Skaters/Couples per discipline) remain, the next ranked Skater/Couple from the results of the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2017 will be moved up to fill their position as a Seeded Skater/Couple"

I will be curious to see who gets NHK.

My gut says Satoko since she’s the national champ, but common guys Wakaba is WSM.

Also looking at the schedule, I would say it’s almost certain Kaetlyn will be in France.

So, say P/C get the French GP as host pick, H/D get SA as host pick.

If W/P and C/L retire. That means C/B get seeded as n°3? And they could chose SC?

So who gets to pick first? And second? Not being at worlds does Yuzuru even have a say?

And what do you think about Deniss Vasiljevs? Where could he possibly skate?

Deniss has been invited to NHK in the past. They know a good performer when they see one (for example, Jason Brown has had three straight invites to NHK.)

I would love to see him at SA as well, even if I'm not going to be anywhere near Washington State. Actually both of them would be fine by me ;)

I'd just like to see Yuzuru at NHK, he hasn't competed in Japan since NHK 16 I think? Since he missed both past national championships and nhk '17 due to illness and then injury.

There are 72 spots for men on the GP. Once the top 12 all have their two (24), that leaves 48 spots to be handed out. Remember, those top 12 men will all be in the top 24 SB list.

Most but not all. Keegan Messing is top 12 at worlds but 40th on SB list. Oops. As I was thinking about this this, the season best list was updated, and Keegan is now 18.

But Majorov was 12th at worlds and is 31 on season's best. He's the only man who is an exception to your statement.

There may be one or two skaters in other disciplines as well who are top 12 worlds but not season's best 24. Certainly not enough skaters to affect your overall argument.

EDITED TO ADD:

Someone else has already covered this, and Majorov isn't the only one. I didn't go check far enough up the World placements.

OMG:rofl::rofl:
True that JSF didn't do any favors to Mao, but they seem to like Yuzu. So if he say no it can be a no

I'm pretty sure that they would put Medvedeva in NHK again just because of the amount of fans she has there, in that case...Osmond might want to avoid it???...

Presumably NHK will have Satoko or Higuchi, so it is out for Osmond anyway (same seed). And once again the HOSTS choose, not the skaters (officially, of course).

I thought the world champions have first choice in where they want to go????...so, i'm assuming she would want to go to Skate Canada and something else that is not NHK or Rostelecom...they will probably put her in France again anyways...

Didier does act like a cartoon villain, but maybe conditions will be better this year.

I personally would like to see Yuzuru in Russia, fans there look to like him very much.

What is this about plastic?

This topic stresses me out. :laugh2: I'm waiting with bated breath for those assignments. May seems like so far away!

Actually last season IdF wasn't that bad, in terms of organization and ice IIRC.

The plastic is ... well it started with GPF medals which were in essence, plastic coasters and then continued last season where we didn't even have medals but plastic (literally) stars with pink for girls and blue for boys .... and the same old rickety medal podium they've been toting around for years that is so going to collapse under the skaters at a very near future.
