2018-2019 GP Assignments

Gabby herself is the sixth seed, so nobody else from that bracket will be there. They have to invite somebody from the first bracket. I expect they’ll try to arrange things to get Carolina (up to and including negotiating with the Japanese to steer their ladies elsewhere).

You're right, I completely forgot Gabby was 4-6 seed. So Carolina might be the best option for SC but I really doubt there'll be no Japanese lady at SC. They have too many ladies and only 6 GP events and they can't pitch them all against each other at other GPs.

Let Yuzu and Shoma collide at SCI! Amen!:cheer: So Yuzu'll find the way to get a first GP event golden medal, finally. E he he...

No, SC gold is cursed! Just ask Shoma, cursed to silvers ever since.

I wasn’t suggesting that they’d keep all Japanese ladies out (both impossible and unnecessary). I was referring to Miyahara and Higuchi in the first seed, if the Fed is wrangling to maximize their odds of getting Kostner. Since they’ll not know their draw order, the potentially best way to do that is to deal directly with Japan and swap cooperation on that front for help in the men’s event.

Why not? I just hope he doesn't go to China. Superstitious...:roll5:

But the Chinese Pooh Rains are always so impressive..

But, of course, Boyang's there so I don't think the Chinese Fed is very keen for Yuzu to come.

Yeah, China will definitely not invite Yuzuru; and they’ll most likely try to avoid Shoma in the first tier of seeding if they can, as between him and Mikhail, the former is the more consistent performer.

Does anybody have any info on the № of quotas the Rus. women will have for the GP?

Last season it was 18, which, IIRC, is the maximum per country. They had 8 people with two GPs plus Sakhanovich and Mihhailova with one GP. (not counting one spot lost due to Pogo's injury). This season the Russian team members are: Zagitova, Medvedeva, Sotskova, Tsurskaya, Konstantinova, Tuktamysheva. The substitutes are: Radionova, Pogorilaya, Sakhanovich. The 6 members should get 2 GP spots. If the subs all get two as well, thats 9 skaters with 2 assignments which maxes out the quotas, meaning that Gubanova and Panenkova won't see competition until nationals. Most likely Radionova will get two with a few aforementioned gettiong one each. Possibly Pogo will also get two which should leave Sakhanovich and Gubanova with one. With this in mind, it is possible that Gubanova and Panenkova will stay in Jrs... where they'll have to reface the quad monsters.

It is so crowded with the Russian women so again, the main question is, will Russia have the 18 quotas for any of this to happen? Please let me know if anyone has any info.

it's just about funding.

Guaranteed 2 spots via top 12 WC – Zagitova, Sotskova
Guaranteed 1 spot via top 24 SB, but in practice 2 due to number of spots to fill – Medvedeva, Tsurskaya, Radionova, Konstantinova, Tuktamysheva, Panenkova
1 spot via SB #29 Sofia SAMODUROVA
Host Pick 1 spot - Might be Pogorilaya/Gubanova/Samodurova/Sakhanovich or someone like Mihhailova :sarcasm:
18

Answered in the Russian ladies' thread but I'm pretty much agreeing with atsumiri...

Higuchi gets first choice, Miyahara gets 2nd choice. It's 100% guaranteed that one of them will pick SC, so there's little or nothing Skate Canada can do to 'maximize' the odds of getting Kostner. If Skate Canada snubs the top seed choice, chances are the Japanese will be insulted and won't deal re the men's event.

They don’t get to pick. The only one who gets to pick is the champion, and even then it’s more of a politeness. The fed doesn’t have to agree, especially if they have a skater in the same seed.

Wakaba would probably like to go to NHK, but it will go to Satoko.

The champion declined the right to compete in the GP. The vice champion (Higuchi) assumes the privileges of the champion, including the right of first pick. As second seed, Kaetlyn's choices were honored last season.

And the fed has a 4-6 seed, not a 1-3 seed. Sorry, not in the same tier.

No, they don’t. It’s a specific informal privilege for the reigning champion; in two of the four disciplines, the reigning champs are sitting out the Grand Prix, so there’s no champion pick.

This is kind of random. I'm thinking of buying tickets for Skate Canada (first time attending a competition), can someone tell me where would be the best spots in amongst the ones left? Is sitting behind the kiss and cry a good idea? Or in the crotch between the Kiss and Cry and the TV crew? Or should I go for section 106, across the judges and in the typical lutz corner? I would like to stay in the 136.25$ ones. Thank you!

For your price range I’d actually recommend Section 115 or 104, on the judges side. All the best stuff happens facing the judges and at least IMO, the angle isn’t particularly distracting, and you get a better view of some stuff that happens near the boards.

He he, Shoma can lose to Boyang in case of messy performance. 4CC does ring the bell, right?;)

Boyang can definitely defeat Shoma with a great performance, but the last couple seasons Boyang has started off slow while Shoma was strong early. On the GP, of course any host country hoping for another winner would go with Kolyada. But he's only going to be available for one pick outside of Russia so that may come down to the order of the draw. (There's a pretty decent chance of Vincent in China along with Boyang & three seeded athletes. Cup of China could be deep this year).

as far as I know, it wasn't Patrick's fault if Yuzu kept on underperforming there.

Also it wasn't Yuzuru's fault for Patrick messing up his skate as well, especially after his comeback. Both didn't cause each other no harm ahaha:rofl:
