2018-2019 GP Assignments

This is gonna sound random but If a skater announces the won’t be on the Grand Prix and have 2 spots (Mirai, Adam, Kaetlyn, etc) do their spots get given to teammates or just the next best ranked skater???

The spots are given to whatever other skaters (don't think it is necessarily best ranked, stuff can get quite complicated)

Looking at this thread, isu is simply stupid.
They could stream the GP announcement (even make a little show by announcing skaters one by one and so on) and charge for it.
So many people would pay.

And all you need is an ISU official and a webcam.

So I think it's still sometime today.
Uhm, while we're used to thinking of the ISU being in Europe, where it's just after 6:00 pm, it's noon Thursday in Toronto and the decision is on today's agenda.

So, unless they have work still to do at the end of today's meetings, the decision will be taken by this evening EDT...

And then it all depends on someone in the ISU secretariat on site in Toronto to support the meetings having a good remote connection to load it up before going to supper.

So for those in far eastern time zones (Sydney, Beijing, Tokyo), it would be likely around dawn Friday morning.

If a seedes skaters decides not to participate. The the next ranked skater moves up. So in the case of Kaetlyn Carolina will be a top 3 seed.

But once assignments are give if a skater withdraws is up to the federation to invite anyone from the list of substitutes (usually they go down the SB list but feds tend to invite non threatening skaters or someone who's not costly to travel to).

thank god they aren't charging that would be heinous.

We should give the ISU a late start violation for making us wait so long

However, even though the GP assignments are good to know at this time, they are always subject to change due to retirements, injuries, etc. Knowing the location of the new GP is nice.

One thing I'm sure, Japan will invite Michal, and I love them for that :luv17:

This is seriously the worst waiting since I had to wait for my kid to be born. (Ironically, the GP assignments came on her due date.)

This is all rather hilarious, crazy figure skating fans spending the day anxious about GP assignments, madly clicking the ISU site.

Wow, I forgot there was a time in which Nathan Chen was being considered for a host spot and Hannah Miller and Haruka Imai each had 2 spots... how fast some things change...
