2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

...
But how it looks now some of Rus ladies are more media persons than competitive skaters.
Liza and Eugenia of seasoned Seniors and Sasha from new Seniors. Too much of media attention...

Well, I not would definitely put these three girls side by side in the context of media attention. At least Sasha is not looking for this. And tell me who is more competitive than she.

With so many of the Russian ladies doing quads and triple axels, it’s not only going to come down to who does the most of them or the most difficult of them. It’s going to come down to who has the best spins and footwork and love from the federation. This is why I believe Liza T is out of the game for next season. She lacks in quality of spins, severely. She isn’t #1 in the eye of the federation (remember, they passed her over in favor of Medvedeva). She won’t do transitions.

Except for her jumps, Liza lacks quality in everything else. And even her jumps are approached at a snail's pace and are telegraphed. That's why I am predicting that Valieva, barring injury, will be "the one". Her spins are amazing, her jumps are excellent. And she's really a "second mark" skater as well! Trusova and Shcherbakova need to really work on their spins.

Uh yes but no about the last part. Trusova could get more speed in her spins but they are incredibly centred. Shcherbakova has speed and flexibility but they could be more centred at times. And Valieva has a problem with her jump combinations, if that is fixed she will be the one.

Liza has great performance qualities, because she really connects to the audience while skating!! She always did it. Don't disregard that.

All posters in the Russian Ladies thread should comply with Goldenskate guidelines. Therefore posters should not gossip or speculate and should not use "bashing" language.

1. Do not speculate that a skater deliberately took another skater's music.
2. Do not speculate that a skater is provoking or egging on her fans to behave in a certain way to another skater.
3. Do not use mocking, sarcastic or offensive language to "bash" a skater or to mock their social media activity.

Posts that violate guidelines will be removed.

A couple things I hope from Team Eteri...

1. More work on choreographic sequence elements. Adelina and Yulia came up in an age where spirals were required and both had good spirals... it wasn't required at their Olympics but they had it and it seems like gone for most skaters these days. I'd rather see a spiral than a quad posted on instagram these days.
2. Please, very seldom should we have these dead starts that only begin with some musical signal... it's ok once and a while but it seemed 80% of the Eteri teams programs began that way and it gets annoying.
3. In exhibitions, please more spins that aren't just retreads of what's done in competition...
4. In exhibitions, TSL brought up saying that Evgenia had weak skating skills... I haven't watched any of her recent exhibitions but she used to never, ever do steps in her exhibitions and that's really, really stupid for her because that's the best part of her skating... and I think that's true for a lot of Eteri skaters. So, do steps in the exhibitions most of the time.
5. Last spring/summer I made a comment or two that I think team Eteri should consider putting the step sequences as the last element just like the Canadians.... and that's exactly what they did. I think it works ok for some skaters(I'd rank them Kostornaia, Zagitova, Shcherbakova, Tursynbaeva, Trusova) but it really requires energy at the end to pull off... Trusova seemed to not really have the energy for it... Zagitova was often sluggish too but I think it worked well when she had the energy.

Agree so much about the spirals part!!!

I'm not too sure about the others, but I hope Shcherbakova has spirals in her new programs, because she has lovely extensions in her spirals (though she has an unfortunate habit of not pointing her feet). I remember one version of her Scheherazade FS having one long spiral across the entire length of the rink before her step sequence begins, where she goes from full needle to penche, it was very pretty. In her Nocturne SP last year she was doing side leg hold to needle to arabesque, which was also gorgeous, though it wasn't held as long.

She did have a spiral sequence for her choreo sequence this season, but her extension positions weren't held very long, didn't suit the music very well, and sort of had a "I'm just waiting for the extra 15 seconds into the second half" vibe. Hopefully there will be longer spirals when her programs are actually choreographed with senior requirements in mind.

Also, I hope Trusova does her cantilever in her choreo sequence. Trusova cantilever appreciation squad. And if Kostornaya doesn't do her gorgeous Ina Bauer at least once then I might start crying, but I don't think I have to worry about that.

Something to discuss if anyone wants to (all hypothetical and positive!)

So right about now Alena would be pretty much the same age as Alina was last year when she won the olympics. I am curious as to who you guys think is the stronger skater at this exact moment in their careers (Alena now, Alina at Olympics)

This would be considering Alina’s layout at the olympics and her performance quality then as compared to Alena’s typical layout and her performance quality now (I know we haven’t see her compete since January but you can imagine). I’m just intrigued to see if anyone has an opinion on this because I see them both as very strong skaters but in different aspects so it is hard for me to choose which I would think is the better overall package. Had Alena gone to the olympics against Alina at this current stage in her skating would she have won? Of course I know their PCS are currently different due to junior/senior, but I’m more curious in general opinions of their overall skating as a whole not necessarily what the judges may award them. Continuing on this, if both are healthy next season, who would you expect to win between the two given two clean skates and no quads?

Yes for me I find alena to be better, but that's my personal opinion cause again I do not feel something when I watch alina skate, she is great no question but I do not get the feelings I get when watching alena or zhenya or Anna.

That is very hypothetical, but if we would have those conditions - no quads or 3A (for Alyona) and both skated clean, then I say Alina would be slightly higher.
Alina would have higher BV (two lutzes, both in combo) and also she would probably receive higher GOE for most elements. Alyona would receive higher GOE for 2A, maybe 3Sal if implemented, and also maybe some spins (but that would be very close, Alina had magnificent spins this season), while Alina would have higher GOE for the rest, lutzes, toes, loops, flips (or flip could be equal) and stsq (that is Alyona's weak point, she still sometimes receives only lvl 3).
As for PCS, during worlds Alina had highest PCS of all both in SP and FS (in SP by cca 0.7 point higher than Zhenya, in FS by 1 point higher than Kaori). No doubt Alyona is capable to receive very high PCS but I don't think it would be significantly higher than Alina now. (not saying if that will be the same two or three seasons later).

What does Alinas story say?
Seriously is this Alina ff? I do not think so, havent we just have gotten over a discussion, mabye you question is better asked in Alinas ff? Since it pertains to alina directly? This is not attack against anyone but I do think it would be better if such question are asked in her fan fest

Are you seriously?

I didn’t mean to upset anyone, Alina’s FF is for praising her and things like that and since it’s related to the drama we were just talking about in this board I thought it would be better to ask here because I don’t want to bring the drama into a board that’s made just for loving Alina :)

Its just that I do not want to have another discussion about it so soon again.
