All Eteri girls always focus on themselves and what they could improve, and being aware of how they did is what helps them further improve imo (and here I include Zhenya too because she was basically raised with Eteri too). No matter if they win or lose, they're always aware of things they need to improve. And none of them has bashed other skaters in an interview.
Perhaps Gubanova just wasn't used to this type of interviews, but i can't completely agree that it's just the interviewer's fault.

On another note, i can't wait to see the new programs, I'm sooo excited. I wish it was during the weekend but I'll get to see them after work so it's okay ^^

On Rodina, this week she got herself a big scandal when she was invited to sports.ru as "figure skating ambassador". After thousands of indignant comments, after Yagudin's naming this "the bottom" she had to delete her sports.ru presence and the site publicly admitted that all ambassador business was a mistake. I kind of feel for her - she has to be in a very big stress now. But I cannot watch her programs and what she said about Alina was beyond my comprehension. If she forgets about figure skating (she has nothing to do with it anyway) it would be best for everyone.

Yeah, right. Evil Eteri controls every single aspect of her skaters lives. It is known (c).
As far as I know though, the only time Eteri did control media access was when the crapfest that started after Olympics began affecting Alina - then her parents and Eteri decided to take away her smartphone and replace it with another one without any media access.

It is what it is. It was a bad choice for an interview for Anastasia. Now she has to learn from it. She can recover from it but I don't know if Rodina can ever recover from some of the things she said. I still don't understand why some of the skaters like this Rodina character. But they do.

Most of us remember what rodina said about Alina. But not everyone. if I was Alina or a member of her family I would be annoyed at some of these girls liking such a vile journalist who threatened to punch Alina and called her a prostitute. But Alina has moved on and just keeps adding greatness to her already great resume.

She really demonstrated that at the Olympic Games when a reporter confronted her with Ashley Wagner's comments about her free program. Alina handled that so well. No one could have prepped her for that and she still gave an exceedingly gracious response.

In the video interview with Zhenya riding around in Moscow answering questions that was filmed a while back she said it was normal for every girl to feel a little jealous. I thought it was a very honest thing to say.

I'm sorry Nastya got interviewed by someone toxic who had no interest in protecting her or making her look good. I realize that is not the responsibility or duty of an interviewer, but ftlog she is a 16 year old girl. :scowl: Save the scandal mongering for any adults who might be desperate enough for attention to give you their time.

Finley this is simply the best post on this topic. Anastasia said what she said now she has to deal with it but it's really not a big deal other than her judgment for meeting with this Rodina.

Your comments about Alina and how she handled the Ashley Wagner situation and Evgenias comments about it's normal for girls to be jealous makes total sense. I think when Alina handle that Wagner situation so well is when I knew she had "it"off the ice too.

I'm still REALLY confused about this. The woman gets interviews with a lot of skaters and seems to have some general cred as something between a journalist and a "serious" blogger, do people in the inner circles of the figure skating community not know the extent of her crazy behaviour? I've seen Russian pseudo-journalists get very tactless and unprofessional, but these things she said are on a completely different level. Personally, I don't watch anything she puts out on principle, only read summaries of the interviews at most. This person doesn't deserve a platform or access to skaters.

That's what Yagudin was talking about? Rodina? She is ruining her career with her actions. So be it. I could not believe Rodina was an ambassador. Lol.

Her parents have already paid more than 20 million rubles (>$300,000) during the last 12 years. They can do it no longer and she needs 3 million rubles (~$50,000) for the new season. So much for state-sponsored free figure skating in Russia.

I don't judge her or her character, and I don't think she's a bad human being.
I think what she says reveals more about her attitude, and that's the biggest problem, not her public image.
She needs to fix that for herself, not for anyone else.
I think she thinks pretty highly of her skills, since she said she totally could've gone to 2018 olympics and placed well there if not for her age, which um... is a very generous outlook on her own performances that season.
And an athlete should probably be always dissatisfied with himself, look for things to improve, rather than focus on how the world and universe is so unjust.

Focusing on that will be the real problem that might ruin her performances, not any other things.

Well, I can agree on that. It‘s not very clever for an athlete to look at the others instead of focusing on improving for themselves. That‘s probably what makes a champion - to never stop working and improving. Like I said, Eteri girls are raised like that. I remember Zhenya in her perfect 2016-17 season and she still mentioned things she could do better after every competition.

What Nastya did in this interview and what she said, was, frankly, incredibly naive and stupid. (I mean, come on, did she really say that about the Olympics? Oh, Nastya, girl, what are you doing? :noshake I just wanted to say that we shouldn‘t forget that Nastya is only 16 and at such a young age and after the frustrating seasons she had, it’s kind of understandable how she came to such jealous thinking. It‘s not a great thing to do and it makes her seem like a jealous and ungrateful person, which I don‘t think she is. I just didn‘t want this to turn into a bashing fest which I’m pretty certain will take place in other social media. She said wrong things but we’ve covered this already. I hope she learned her lesson from this and is a bit more gracious towards her competitors in the future because she‘s not doing herself any favours with these kind of interviews. The whole coaching change drama brought her lots of negative attention already (which, technically, wasn‘t entirely her fault) and this interview only makes it worse. As for her attitude, she will have to find that within herself. If she wants to improve, she should do it for herself, not only to beat others. But again, it‘s hard in Russian figure skating and maybe the many frustrations have caused Nastya to think like this. It‘s sad but understandable and I hope she has a support system that helps her along the way to find the motivation and the drive for herself. She’s not my favourite at all and she would need lots of things to improve to become a top skater but I feel for her. She‘s just a kid. And it seems like she‘s ruining her own career right now and that makes me feel sorry for her.

I don‘t get why she‘s even allowed to do any interviews at all? And why so many skaters still do interviews with her or follow her on social media. Seriously, who is she even? I never heard her name before until she was brought up here again and again and yet she somehow gets to interview all these people and skaters? Whoever or whatever is she? What made her become involved with figure skating? And why does anybody (including the skaters that do interviews with her) even care about her at all?

The only TeamTutberidze senior who has announced both programs is Alina. Both 3A and Elizabet have told only one name of the programs and I doubt they all are keeping programs for next season. Maybe they're still in progress or girls just don't want to announce it yet.

We also know only one program of Kanysheva. And Usacheva, unless she‘s keeping one program too. (They’re not seniors but still) So, yes, it really makes sense that they just don‘t want to announce it yet.

Does anyone here know to what extent are Russian skaters funded in different levels (Senior, Junior, Novice and their respective reserve teams)? Do they pay for their own costumes and traveling? As I understood, seniors get funding for these things, but how about juniors? What Nastya T. would need that money for?

When Alina got silver at Euros I remember her expressing her gratitude for that medal and saying she "could have been left with nothing." Humility looks good on anyone.

She was realistic... cause on how she skated her free program at that event....., she could easily have been off the podium if not the reputation of an OGM.
