2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

Again, I am no expert, but I disagree with just wondering.

My understanding of the 2019-20 rulebook (p. 132) is that the minimum TES requirement applies even to those with byes (such as a bye from placing in the top five at the previous year's Nats).

Emphasis added to this excerpt to Rule 2501:

2501 Singles competitors qualify for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships: ...
B. For the senior events by meeting the minimum required technical score per rule 2505 and:
1. Placing in the top 4 in senior at their respective sectional singles final;
2. Earning a bye:
a. For placing in the top five in the same event at last year’s U.S. Figure Skating Championships; ...

Also, see Rule 2513 on p. 133:
2513 No medical byes will be granted to the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

Excellent reading of the rules, ice coverage. (I'm rather embarrassed I did not take the time to look it up! sloppy.)
Admittedly, I did not confirm but presumed that Top 5 was a comprehensive bye. In other words, it came with privileges, medical or otherwise. Quite interesting! Though it applies to very few, and perhaps no one this year. Interesting, nonetheless.

I'm sending good thoughts to Bradie as she heads to Canada. She may not make the podium but, the sooner she competes against the best, the sooner she'll know where she stands when it comes to Worlds.

Bradie also is on the entry list for Warsaw Cup in mid-November.

I don't think so since the full up rule does not apply.
Following up on my last response.

I think it might apply if the 4th place finisher "withdrew"and then the 5th place person moved up. But technically can the 4th place finisher withdraw since they did not qualify.

I noticed Caroline Zhang is listed as a technical specialist for many of the events at the Central Pacific Regional. Good for her!

Also - I see Polina Edmunds is not listed for Senior Ladies. Did she end up getting an NQS bye?

I’ve seen photos of Caroline and Grant coaching, but I didn’t know she was judging/tech specialist. That is so cool:cool2:

Haley Beavers is also competing in senior ladies at North Atlantic Regionals, very happy to see her coming back! she is in 2nd after the short.

i always thought she had huge potential when she won nationals as a novice 3 years ago and then had an untimely injury. hoping she sees further success and stays healthy.

This is very good to hear! Please keep us all updated!

I’m also tracking that regional. The good news is that she is in good position to make it to sectionals. The bad news is that her SP had a very low TES score (about 23, iirc), so it will be difficult to reach the 75 TES for nationals at this competition. Hopefully she’ll score higher at sectionals. In the same position of needing 75 are Gracie and Courtney; Sectionals will be interesting this year, with the scores so important.

a Gracie fanpage on instagram reposted some clips of Gracie in an off ice training session, looks like she is really focusing on stamina and conditioning.

Good. I suggested that 3 weeks ago, IN ADDTION TO FULL RUN THROUGHS.

And until we hear it from Gracie or her coach, no one has any idea if she’s not doing FULL RUN THROUGHS.

Certainly not a certain website.

Is there any other source for this theory? (Other than the skate itself. Nothing is “obvious” about practice from a skate itself)

this is unnecessary. who are you to know she wasn't doing full runthroughs or conditioning? she wouldn't have even bothered showing up at regionals if she wasn't. i am very sure Gracie and her team are doing just fine without your suggestions.

The consensus on this forum was she looked labored and out of shape in her regional. If you think that is "doing just fine", I would disagree. I have no idea if she is doing full run throughs, or not, though a few suggested she may not be. My suggestion is IF she is not, then she should be doing full run throughs.

Competing and training are totally different in some respects. She can be doing great run throughs in practice that are consistent in speed / power and quality of elements, but she could have panicked or had very high anxiety when it came time to skate her program that caused her to run out of energy. Let’s not forget, her last previous competitive outing was not great and this is the first she has really put herself out there in the comeback trail.
