2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

I don't think allowing a 14 year old at senior nationals itself would be a problem, it is when a 14 year old win over your favorite skater.

Had Alysa ended up in 5th or 6th, I bet more people would have the opposite reaction, which is praising her potentials.

I just don't get all the negativity towards Alysa. Like it or not, she is the future in US Figure Skating. For a 14-year-old to get out there and skate as she did is pretty special in my books. She must have nerves of steel I thoroughly enjoyed her FS. I think she did a fantastic job. She seems pretty grounded and a lot more mature since last year. Mariah was great as well. Best Free Skate she ever had. It is too bad she could not have won but she will just have to step it up, like learn a Triple Axel.
Disappointed for Bradie. I really wanted her to win but not to be. And for those complaining about the importance of the jumps. Figure Skating has always been about the jumps. If you can't do the jumps you don't win. The fact that some are pushing the envelope makes every skater strive harder. And to me, that is a good thing.

I wanted her to win too. She's got two fantastic programs and she's such a fighter but she's been having a run of bad luck this year with injuries. Still I cannot wait to see her at 4CC and I'm hoping she'll shake off all these niggling injuries and peak!

Bradie and Rika! Sooo excited for it! Possibly more excited than Worlds because there is a great chance I'll get my dream podium (gosh I kinda don't want to say stuff like that lest the skating gods jinx me).

Hello. I am really disappointed that i cant find any of the videos in Youtube and i now the outcome in ladies... Do you know where i can see the performances?

Alysa has a great outlook, and a great deal of maturity. I was very sad that Mariah didn't have-finally!-her Nationals championship. On the other hand, she could have added another combo. And she needs a triple axel. Nagasu did it, Bell can do it too.

I’ve been at events all week and for sure women’s long has been the most well attended event. I think a lot does have to do with Gracie (though not all). I was sitting around a bunch of locals and when looking at the starting order sheet many of them pointed out Gracie’s name as one they recognized. A few recognized Mariah as well.

They don't seem much like fans if they recognise Gracie and Mariah but not the last two National champions Alysa and Bradie, who were the favourites to take the title this time too.

Locals with a passing interest because the event was local.

I'm seeing on Twitter that 4CC team is Karen, Amber, and Bradie. It's absolutely heartbreaking to me that Mariah will not be attending likely due to all the terrible (and very unnecessary) Eunsoo drama. She had a great shot at medaling.

EDIT: I obviously don't know with 100% certainty that's the reason she's not going but given the circumstances that is my suspicion.

That's Benny the ice skating dog... he assists with puck drops at major league hockey games, does skate with me events for charity etc.. he was a shelter dog adopted just before they were going to euthanize him... the lady who owns him is a skater, noticed his jntelligence and performing abilities, got him custom-made skates and out onto the ice, rest is history. Benny is lovely. .. I follow him on instagram at

Well that just put a huge smile on my face.

:thank:

It probably factored into her decision. I wouldn't blame her, and at this point in both Mariah's career, the pressure to regain 3 spots for Worlds/Olympics, and Korean fans' bias, 4CC is more trouble than it's worth. Some Korean fans still get mad over Brian Orser and Adelina, I wouldn't wish the latest fresh gossip mill on anyone.

4CC is seen as more of a "consolation event" anyway. Bradie and Mariah should have the eye on the prize of regaining 3 spots at World's, which is a difficult feat in this field.

This year's nationals seemed a bit messy.I think because it is a new generation of slaters and old skaters who came back to find closure. Some scores were alittle questionable. The judges need to give more realistic scores by their opinion rather depending on the USFS. Hopefully, next year nationals would be more fun to watch and I hope I Wouldn't be questioning the score with some skaters.

NEver give up because of one bad competition ladies

Also factored into the decision, I'm sure... this was a very emotional week for Mariah. I'm sure she's drained. She became a real star, lots of media obligations. The 4CC turnaround is really, really quick.

Huh. This is what there reporting on the fan zone, so I guess this is official. Yikes.

4CC is in Korea, so I guess it makes sense to make a pragmatic decision like this. Although it leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

What I hope is happening is they want to give Amber a chance to earn more WR points, since Mariah is going to worlds and will get them already. Also a better PB will help Amber earn a second spot more easily.

I don’t like it because a performance like Mariah gave can throw a skater off in their next competition. 4CC is a great buffer for worlds because it gets rid of “winners head” and they focus more on their next competition with awesome results. Look at Kaetlyn in 2017 at nationals, then 4CC the at worlds.

However, Mariah has been so consistent all season long, with a few months of practice I’m sure that winners head will fade and will focus on getting back three spots.

Another factor is that to be truly competitive at Worlds for Top 7 & getting 3 spots back, Mariah really must add another 3-3 combo. The U.S. needs her more for than than another 4CC medal.

Gracie puts butts in seats. And I’m not just saying that because I love her. She also has at least one major, non skating boot sponsor, which gives her visibility outside skating. Locals who come to an event may become big time fans. I was in a suite with some ladies who were so excited that I let them throw Mariah a bunny that some of them brought their own stuffies to throw the next day. IMHO that’s how fans are made. Just my opinion.
