2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

Any word on Polina? With all the talk of Gracie, we seem to have forgotten she also competed in a summer event and seems to be flirting with a comeback? Is she signed up? Do we know anything?

I think she’s central pacific, which is late October. Well hear something in the coming weeks.

Has Polina finished school? If not, it must be rough for her to train and maintain her GPA. Like Gracie, I wish her the best in her comeback effort.

Looks like she's definitely still insecure and inconsistent, but IMO that is not surprising. This is just the very first step in the process toward the next Olympics, which are still three seasons away. I think she is so brave and determined and am so excited to see her skate again, regardless of the result.

Some nice lutzes and a good 3-3 at the end of the video.

Is this at her home rink?

It looks like it, although the video is so small, it’s hard to see.

Regionals are at Ice Works and Gracie trains at Ice Works. This is not Rink 2, where the comps I’ve attended were held. I think it’s Rink 3, and I have watched practices at that rink, but it’s not as familiar to me as 2, so I’m only 99% sure instead of 100%. ;)

Aston is 15-20 miles away from the nearest full sized rink, though, so I don’t know where else they’d be practicing.

Nice to see, she is delaying her lutz which is making her prone to popping, but as we can see she CAN do a lz-t, she CAN land difficult jumps. Crossing my fingers that she stays calm and has two skates she can be proud of.

This is exactly how I feel. I just want her to be happy with what she puts out. I'm already so proud of what she's done to get this far and I'd hate to see her upset.

She's looked great on Instagram, but I think this training video probably helps us fans have more realistic expectations about how consistent her jumps are at this moment. At Rostelecom, I don't recall seeing a single, rotated 2A or harder jump in training and here she did do a nice lutz toe at the end so there's clear improvement. Hopefully she can land enough jumps to get her to Sectionals. The season is probably more about getting out there and competing rather than any particular result.

I hope she's not putting too much pressure on herself. I want this to be a positive experience for her that she can build from.

Me too. May she skate with joy.

FWIW, someone on Twitter had breathlessly mentioned that b/c IceWorks is busy with competition this week, Gracie would be visiting the person's rink to practice there.

So at least conceptually, it would make sense if Gracie (and other regionals competitors) were using a non-IceWorks rink for some practice.

Meanwhile, I am unsure as to the location of TSL's video. Doesn't strike me as Rink 3 (or 2 or 1 -- and LOL, I don't remember much about 4), plus the absence of ubiquitous (IIRC) IceWorks signage makes me wonder whether it is IceWorks at all. But I am no expert, by any stretch. :noshake:  [ETA: On second thought, maybe the logos on the blue banner are an all-white version of the gold/purplish IceWorks logo that I am thinking of.]

Anyway, Senior Ladies are among those who will compete on IceWorks Rink 1  for regionals this week. (I'm shivering just at the thought of it.)

Fingers crossed for her. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s feeling some pressure. Her coach has been posting video after video showing her doing increasingly difficult jumps for months, setting expectations high. I kinda wish he hadn’t done it so she could make a relatively quiet comeback. The other thing - this is the final qualifying competition for Nats, so if she skates badly here, that’s it for this year. As a two time national champion, that must be difficult to contemplate. Hoping for the best tomorrow!

Regionals is the first step in the qualifying process. Top four from regionals will go to sectionals in November. Then top four from sectionals will qualify for Nationals.

whole post

Thanks for the info, IceCoverage, and I certainly am no expert. Years ago I attended a few of my nephew's college hockey games in Aston as well, and it could be that rink ... or not.. And Wilmington was the rink I thought would be closest, and I suspect that's the twitter user? I don't follow, but I know he's a source of Gracie news;). No idea what that rink looks like:noshake:

And just jumping off, like everyone else here, I just hope Gracie is happy with her skate. Whatever that may be.

And anyone going to see her takes layers:biggrin:

I understand, and I should have been clearer. What I meant was, if Gracie doesn’t do well at regionals tomorrow she won’t make it to sectionals or nationals. I was kind of regretting that she didn’t compete at any of the earlier qualifying comps, but she probably wasn’t ready.

She is probably just suffering from nerves. Just as I mentioned before, Instagram videos do not provide an accurate view of a skater's progress. However, one practice is also not a completely fair view of that progress. Maybe she was just having a bad day . I think we all just want her to be satisfied with her progress and results. Having more expectations than that is really just unfair for Gracie.

I think she could skate (relatively) poorly and make it out of Regionals. I don’t think she’d be happy with that at all though.
