Karen in 2nd with 182 total, Hanna in third with 165 total

Judging by TES, Karen had a fall and probably a few URs... PCS seems way too low considering her talent + the audience reaction I've seen so far. But good for her for putting out 2 programs with only 1 fall. If she can continue on this path, GOE + PCS should rise and tech panel may be more lenient

Hannah had 2 falls, but lots of people are talking about her natural jumping talent. Still a more successful outting than Broadmoor, right? Not sure. Hopefully she can keep working out her kinks and continue the momentum she started at US nats and JR worlds when her season officially begins in a few weeks.

I'm interested in seeing both of their long programs, hopefully there will be videos soon!

Hanna has competed at Broadmoor, Texas Cannon Open, and now Philadelphia.

Broadmoor - 155
Texas Cannon Open - 182
Philadelphia - 165

She has about 2 weeks to get ready for her first Junior Grand Prix event.

Didn't realize she competed in the middle of those two comps. Not much time to get her jumps together but hopefully she can do it. She got 62 TES with 2 falls (and URs) so clearly the potential is there and the judges will reward her if she can get it together.

After how Megan skated today, the Skate America spot is probably Amber's. Megan scored 140.22 at Philadelphia.
Poor Megan. She has lots of talent but something is missing. Does she have another competition before champs camp to prove herself? Or has she lost the SA spot?

How did Starr do?

It's not the jumps I'm worried about with Hanna, I'm worried about the levels on the spins and step sequences. Hanna can score 65+ in the Short and even 130+ in the Long if she did not lose so many levels on the steps and spins. The program is new so I hope she can work out the kinks and be mentally and physically prepared to kick butt in France. Also, Hanna needs to get comfortable with her programs so I'm happy that she's competing them several times.

How did Starr do?
Starr did pretty well and managed to land a 3T+3T+2T. Starr fell only once, but due to the under-rotation calls, she only received a 94. None of the top ladies were clean today, but it's a summer competition so we can't expect anything less or more.

NQS Events Before Champs Camp:
- Skate Francisco
- Potomac Open
- Orange City Open
- Cup of Colorado
- Hershey Open
- Cranberry Open

Unless Megan goes and wows the federation with a 180+, I don't think she's going to be the host pick.

Oh no. I just looked at the protocols and other tweets about the Philadelphia competition.

Starr popped a loop, which is ok, it’s only August, but what is not ok is she STILL has a flutz and she STILL is only capable of 3toe-3toe. But does anyone have a clip of her long program? The program sounds interesting.

Akari had a program riddled with URs.

Pooja will probably be on the jgp soon and she looks to be struggling.

Oh no oh no oh no.....America ladies, you can do it!!! You can!!!

If there is anything I've learned, it is to not trust summer competition scores and base a skater's readiness on the summer competitions. Nathan Chen scored 144 during the summer and everyone thought he was over, then he went on to have an undefeated season. Jason Brown had a meltdown and people wrote him off... then a few months later he won silver in France. YUZURU Hanyu fell and popped his jumps left and right then won gold a few months later. Alysa Liu under-rotated almost every single 3A she attempted and then went on to land 3 successful ones at Nationals. Hanna Harrell injured herself, could not compete all summer long, and then scored 200+ at Nationals and was in the Top 10 at Junior Worlds.

Skaters have different training regimes and their teams know when and where they should peak. I don't think anybody wants to see a skater peak in a summer competition. Also, vice-versa, a skater who is doing great during the summer events may not do so well during the actual season.

Also, for a lot of the skaters here, it is their FIRST or SECOND time competing two new programs. Best of luck to the ladies during the season.

Karen has been in really great condition. I hope her team has a plan on how she can sustain and build on this when school starts. This could be a great year for her if she keeps on this path.

Just jumping in to say that from the rink, Karen looked lovely. Just lovely. And confident.

Hanna skates with power and confidence and I like that.

I’m not one to pour over protocols, so I can’t speak to that, (Shin Amano was in the tech panel after all ) but the top three ladies at the comp were definitely the three best skaters.

Maybe more detail after I think about it :)

A huge thank you to Allyson, yonkaitenpooh, and many others for providing the videos.

Sarah jung earned a total of 162 at phileadelphia. She was so powerful today and did a wonderful 3Lutz-3T and a 3F -Eu-3S and earned 110 in the freeskate!! I'm so proud of her. I hope she gets a jgp!

Lindsay Thorngren won the non-international junior ladies' division at Philadelphia with a score of 161. I think her jumps included a 3Lz+3T, 3F+2T+2Lo, and 2A+3T.

How did Starr do?

I felt sooooo horrible for Megan. One of my GS friends told me she was crying on her way out of the arena and her family was trying to console her. My personal opinion is that the SA spot is gone but I’m not on the selection committee.

Starr did ok. She ended up 4th. Her short was much better than her long...IMHO....

I feel for Megan. I really enjoyed her skating last year. Doesn't she also attend BU full time? It could just be the balancing act is getting tougher as she advances in her degree.

I liked Starr's short program, but the long is kind of meh. She also still seems to have a stamina issue in the long program. Granted, it's early, but it was an issue last year. I really want to see her work with a new choreographer.

At this point it seems the 3rd spot for a US Lady at SA is going to be like when the USFSA kept giving Caroline Zhang SA even though she wasn't competitive and kept finishing near the bottom of the standings. :palmf:

Megan attends Northeastern in Boston. I really like her skating, and I love her choice of music. I hope she at least gets a good challenger assignment.

I thought Mirai had retired?

She's retired, she's not dead. ;)

The Aurora show is a celebration of women's sports, competition and entertainment all wrapped into one. It has currently active athletes and recent past heroes mixed in together.

Maybe the timeframe for your comment is starting this year. (And I am not going to try to predict for this year or for the future.)

But just want to be clear that your comment would not have applied to 2018 Skate America.

Megan was given the third spot in 2018, and she placed a respectable sixth -- exceeding the low expectations that many had for her.

(I'm not saying that the 2019 Skate America spot should belong to her. I do wonder whether she might compete at Cranberry Open???)

Mirai never has said that she has retired from competition.

In fact: Some recent comments from her left the door open to the possibility of competing again down the road. Did not necessarily sound like a strong possibility (IMO), but she did not rule out the possibility of returning to traditional competition (by which I mean: events on the USFS calendar and/or ISU calendar).

(I do understand that the Aurora event happens to not be a traditional competition.)

Have a safe trip home, moonvine.

I never understood that. Her three last appearances there followed her Nationals results of 11th, 12th, and 11th.

I don’t know. She didn’t skate at Collegiates. That is all I know. Considering the winner gets a 5k scholarship it seems it would be worth it.
