2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

Isabeau reminds me of Sasha Cohen.

At first I wondered if you meant this as a positive (she has Sasha's graceful movement) or a negative (she is plagued by inconsistency). It then occurred to me that Sasha did have a lot of success and if a US skater could only "lose the gold/win the silver" they would be the best US skater in quite a while.

(All this to say, I underappreciated Sasha Cohen at the time.)

I think we all underappreciated Sasha at the time, at least her competitive results. I was a HUGE Sasha fan who was always so disappointed she never won gold.

That said - given the ladies' field nowadays, a skater with Sasha's inconsistency (1-2 falls in every LP) would probably never medal anyway.

I think it's a positive to say that a skater reminds someone of Sasha Cohen who is arguably up there as one of the greats of the sport. Due to Isabeau adding a 3Lz for the first time in her programs (and a 3Lz+3T at that), she has not been putting out the clean programs she's used to, but I'm sure that the 3Lz will become more consistent come Nationals. When you have a skater like Isabeau already scoring 155+ this early into the summer, just imagine how high she'll score once she peaks at or around Nationals. Usually, Isabeau scores 10-20 points higher by the time Nationals rolls around, so I think we can expect 170-180 unless the 3Lz is still a problem.

I met Dorothy Hamill in a bar in NYC shortly after the 2002 Olympics and we talked skating. I remember at the time her saying she felt Sasha Cohen had the most talent of any of the American ladies at the time.

After todays russian test skates I still think it is a good strategic call to let liu do 2 4lz and 3 3a. She will need the tech points to stand a chance

It depends on how clean the Russians are. The majority of them were not clean today, though of course they are likely to improve on that later in the season. Though PCS-wise, every one is above Alysa at the moment.

I'd probably give Alysa interpretation and maybe composition over quite a few of them. Most of their programs are quite dull and I would say Alysa has greater personality/presence on the ice than all of them. Regardless, she does desperately need to keep working on her SS and continue to develop her programs to make sure she doesn't fall too far behind.

Heidi Munger scored 149.84 at Collegiates last week.

Thanks for the list.

(Maybe it's just me, but the skater's top score in a vacuum is not as helpful to me as seeing the name of the competition too.)

And there are some smaller competitions that have already occurred but have not published their results. I don't know if any scores have been higher than those posted here, but some of the same skaters have competed as well as some others who have not (yet?) entered one of the more publicized events.

Does anyone have any updates on Angela Wang? (Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this)

I personally don't but, I thought she had retired after last season. I followed her closely as a junior and briefly as a senior. She is like...The almost girl. She's been close many times but has yet to make the podium as a senior at Nationals. I wish her the best if she continues.

Angela is skating on the cruise ship “Symphony of the Seas”. Tim Dolensky is also a member of the cast.

Has she retired?

I did not see an official announcement, although I don’t follow her as closely as I should. I know more that she is there from Tim.

And of course TimLeDuc came back to competition from cruise ship shows, so it is possible:yes:

Tweaks for haribobo's list:

Elsa Cheng 158.83 is from NQS Novice at Skate Milwaukee.
Her NAC score: 147.74. ...

I added the names of the competition as well for the senior and junior ladies.

Thanks for adding the competition names.

Elsa Cheng's 158.83 is not from North American Cup.

As I have said before: It is from NQS Novice at Skate Milwaukee.

[Nitpicking, but "Classic" is not part of the name of either Philadelphia competition.
"Philadelphia Summer International" is (obviously) the international.
"Philadelphia Summer Championships" is the club competition.]
