2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

I don’t know. I’m trying to get any information I can from anyone on this page.

I found it frustrating that it is so hard to obtain information as who are competing in these club competitions. Is there any reason that the organizer did not want to have this information public available even after the events started?

I’m not familiar with Audrey Shin or Kate Wang. Are they novice national medalists? Could anyone give me short bios on them?

Aurdey is the reigning Jr national silver medalist. She’s competed internationally a few times, including once on the JGP last year where she scores a 134. She was moderately better at Spring Egna Trophy, 4th place with a score of 144. She has a big problem with underrotations that aren’t caught domestically. I can’t seem to find if she has competed this summer. I think her coach is still Tom Z.

Kate was 10 at novice this year, but she’s one of the highest scoring juniors this summer with a score of 164. She’s working on a 3Lz+3Lo combo and a 3A. There’s probably a video of her at GF on YouTube.

Found her SP and FS at Skate Detroit.

Mariah usually does the Nebelhorn which is on September 25th.

Although the Russian ladies will probably sweep the podium, I hope either Kate or Audrey manage to stand amongst the top 5. Kate’s starting base value is actually higher and her jump layout is more difficult than the Russian ladies, but she will not receive the high GOE and PCS marks. I think Kate is only one of two Junior ladies competing with a 3Lz+3Lo. Best of luck to the US ladies.

Not sure about Kate Wang, but Audrey Shin seems to get cut a LOT of breaks by USFS. Her URs are a big problem, and the pass she gets on them domestically drives me nuts. Her JGP outing last year was not good at all.

Agreed. I’m baffled why she’s getting a spot when she doesn’t even have a score in the top ten for juniors or seniors.

Kate is a very lovely skater, the 3Lo in the short was beautiful, but the one in the combo seemed under. I hope she skates well in the JGP:hap10:

Even tho audrey is the reigning junior silver medalist, she is not ready to compete yet. Domestically all her jumps are UR but never called and this is a problem when she goes internationally. Every time the USFS send her out, she always doesn't do the bestrick she can. The USFS need to realize she 's coming back from an injury and needs a little more time. And she only have competed once this season, in philly.

Aurdey is the reigning Jr national silver medalist. … I think her coach is still Tom Z. ...

Audrey's primary coach last season was Tammy Gambill.

FYI for Bluediamonds: Both the ISU and USFS Fan Zone have official bios for Audrey.

There definitely is a “test skate” at the Broadmore camp. It’s why so many people often get spots out of the blue. They’re often impressive there, but since this isn’t a formal competition and the selection isn’t as transparent, it makes it easier for an under the radar skater impress at the camp when there it isn’t a full on competition setting. ...

I think it is a positive thing that under-the-radar skaters have a chance to make an impression. :)

I guess. I've never seen this document before or heard the terminology of a "U.S. Dance Final." When there was a discussion about the proposed changes previously (probably on FSU, not here), I just recall that there was going to be an actual dance competition. And afterward people saying that the dancers would still have a Nationals but that it wouldn't be at Nationals. I don't suppose it matters to me an ounce what it's called or whether the winners are considered National Champions. I do think its important to have the best of the best go up against each other in a high pressure situation. ...

Other than bragging rights, what is at stake for novices at U.S. Dance Final is the chance for the top nine couples (out of eighteen total entries) to go to the new National High Performance Development Team Camp.

I think it is completely unclear whether competing for bragging rights at U.S. Dance Final will feel the same to the skaters as competing at the national championships -- in terms of being a "high pressure situation."

I've seen wording on the website suggest that they encourage junior skaters (and their coaches) that may be considered for junior GPs or Challenger series to attend at least one of the camps offered, which typically included Champs Camp on the list. I just think it helps to be exposed to senior skaters.

Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying … but juniors cannot invite themselves to Champs Camp.

As something new last year, USFS selected a few of the top juniors as "Emerging Athletes" and invited them to Champs Camp.

Unfortunately, the USFS page about summer camps is not super-clear in its delineation, but Champs Camp is in a category of its own.

I’m kind of curious as to why you repeatedly ask people here to provide you with information that’s readily available with a quick google search. USFS has been posting JGP assignments on its website every Monday. The USFS Fan Zone has bios of Audrey Shin and Kate Wang.

What's up with Sarah Jung? When I look her up on YouTube, there's basically nothing (no competition videos, programs, etc) besides a couple of videos of her at Broadmoor attempting different jumps.

Audrey does struggle with URs, but it's inaccurate to say she is never called on them domestically. She received 6 UR calls at Nationals last year (including all three triples in the SP). Strong spins and PCS enabled her to win silver, but that says more about the lack of depth in the field than anything else.
