2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

I think it is better to say that you don't personally like her style of skating than that you don't personally like her. I am sure you have nothing against her personally. Alysa's style of skating definitely does not appeal to me. (I love strong SS and a soft knee) but Alysa herself is adorable and deserving of praise for her hard work. There are far too many people (adults, sadly) who direct their dislike of the judging or choreo against young skaters. Look at the hate that Adelina received after Sochi and the hate Evgenia got for years because tech callers didn't call her flutz. Giving constructive criticism is one thing ( Alysa needs better SS and more height on her jumps..imo) but disliking a video and posting rude messages on videos is really childish behavior. I wish fans would remember these are real people with real feelings and they are all amazing talents whether their skating appeals to us or not.

haha yes thank you for clarifying. i don’t personally hate her, i just don’t like her style of skating [emoji28]

Jessica was a hit with Hanyu fans today with her Hope and Legacy program/costume. I certainly hope she can get her program super clean this season.

Glad that she recognizes her weaknesses and is working to improve them

I have been impressed by Alysa and her team’s ability to identify and quickly improve elements of her skating that are less strong. The interpretation and the 4Lz have improved notably, even in the last month or so.

I am happy to hear the focus is skating skills and more speed into jumps. I look forward to seeing how they improve by Nationals/Junior Worlds.

Alysa Liu surprised me nicely. When I saw her last year on US nationals, I thought "oh just another jumping child". But she improved so much over the off season... I think she can go far.

I know the season has really just started, but Nationals this year will be so much more exciting! Alysa will be a favorite to repeat as Senior National champion, but Bradie will not give up without a fight. I can see them giving Bradie the win with two clean skates, but it's in her own hands. Ting will be gunning for that Senior #2 spot, and Mariah will have to be more consistent with her 3-3 to keep her spot. Karen came out strong early on, but who knows if she will hold on to the end of the season, especially with Cornell starting. Hanna has so much potential, so I hope she doesn't remain shaky all season long. Potential comebacks from Gracie, Mirai and Polina (?) will also add some spice to Nationals. Last year's Nationals were a bit stagnant (Bradie and Mariah were the only real senior contenders), so I'm looking forward to this year!

To see her break 200 was also quite a surprise. I hope she can keep this momentum throughout the season. Good luck.

Obviously Alysa is the focal point for discussion, but I'll give a shoutout to Jessica Lin, who figured out how to get the fourth-most free skate views on YouTube despite finishing eighth overall.

Japanese fans are falling in love with her after they discovered that her Free is a tribute to the legendary Yuzuru Hanyu.

Nationals this year has the potential to be really exciting. So many different possibilities!

I do disagree about Bradie though, If Alysa lands her jumps I think she is unbeatable. USFS has jumped all in on the Alysa Liu hype train.

I feel like her performances are so much faster than her warmups. I was actually a little shocked when I saw her performances on YouTube given what I'd seen before. I'm not sure if it's camera angles, or if she's really that much faster when competing.

According to the Guardian, Alysa can in fact land “many different quads”, but chose the 4Lz because it was her most consistent and easiest. Alysa said that the 3Lz is her most favorite jump and the easiest for her to do whilst the 3S is her most difficult. Thus, she decided to not incorporate the 4S because it was not as consistent as the 4Lz. Seems like she’s having the same problem as Nathan whose best quads are the Flip or Lutz and hardest is the Salchow.

I think Nathan's most consistent quad is the toe, and his least is the loop (though I think this weakness may be largely due to the desire to avoid risking injury to his hip unnecessarily). Nathan has a great lutz, but he has said the quad lutz is harder for him than the toe. However, he believes the lutz is necessary due to its substantial point total.

I do think the lutz is Vincent's best jump, both as a triple & a quadruple.

I'll be happy no matter which skater wins Nationals. I love Alysa's jumps but, I enjoy Bradie's speed and presentation. It's the 3rd spot that I feel is truly up for grabs.

Cool. She's from Texas, and skates in Peter & Darlene Cain's group, which is famous for supporting and celebrating great moments. But I'm not taking anything away from her by saying that.

I'd like to give a shout-out to All Three of the USA girls who skated at Lake Placid. They all made the top eight. Emilia Murdock came 7th.
Congratulations to Alysa, Emilia and Jessica.

I’m really curious as to what Gabriella Izzo will do for her combo in the short program this weekend. The loop is the required solo jump, but can she add a double loop to her 3lutz or 3flip? Or is she forced to just do a simple double toe as the second jump in the combo?

We still only have 2 spots at Worlds- which doesn’t really matter as Alysa is not old enough for senior Worlds anyways. If I was a betting person I would say the World team will be some combo of Bradie + Mariah/Ting/Karen.
