2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

According to the Guardian, Alysa can in fact land “many different quads”, but chose the 4Lz because it was her most consistent and easiest. Alysa said that the 3Lz is her most favorite jump and the easiest for her to do whilst the 3S is her most difficult. Thus, she decided to not incorporate the 4S because it was not as consistent as the 4Lz. Seems like she’s having the same problem as Nathan whose best quads are the Flip or Lutz and hardest is the Salchow.

The Guardian pulled that quote from NBC - to clarify, she didn’t say she can land multiple types of quads. Just that she chose to pursue the quad lutz because triple lutz was easier than triple salchow. With regard to consistency, she said that triple lutz was more consistent that the salchow so it made more sense. She mentioned these all as triples, not as quads.

I’d rather we avoid the hype train to start talking about the “different types of quads she can land” as that doesn’t appear to be the priority of her team in the near future.

Thank you for the clarification. The team’s priority thus far seems to be improving skating skills, speed, and presentation. I cannot wait to see Alysa’s maturation and growth.

Looking at the dislike ratios makes me thank ISU for disabling the comment section... I don’t know what would’ve go down there..
I think they disabled it after some incident? Correct me if I’m wrong there.
It’s about time to disable like/dislike ratio too, imo.

They disabled the livechat feature on the livestreams because people kept insulting the skaters (particularly, there were racist comments about Pooja Kalyan, for one).

The getting rid of the comments sections on the videos wasn't about anything specific to the JGP, it was the result of YouTube changing its policy about videos featuring minors after the pedophile scandal.

They disabled comments/live chats after ladies who weren't even podium threats received hateful comments like, "Kill yourself". For the ones who were podium threats, the comments were even worse. I understand that people are loyal and want their favorites to do well, but I will never understand the need to resort to bullying. The fan-wars between the Japanese and Koreans was especially bad and many of them fat shamed, trolled, or down right called skaters ugly and unrefined. Terrible stuff. Now, we just need them to disable the likes and dislikes, so people have more free time since they use it all up to mass dislike.

Absolutely abhorrent conduct. The number of dislikes on Alysa’s videos is startling — I hope she doesn’t see that, but I feel like she will. Can this feature even be disabled?

I hope her team can coach/advise her properly on the pitfalls of social media.

I’m really curious as to what Gabriella Izzo will do for her combo in the short program this weekend. The loop is the required solo jump, but can she add a double loop to her 3lutz or 3flip? Or is she forced to just do a simple double toe as the second jump in the combo?

Last year she did 3Lz2T.

Last year she did 3Lz2T.

I understand that Gabriella did that combo last year, but this year, doing a 3lutz-2toe, 2axel, and 3loop in the short program won’t score very high. I’m just assuming she wants to make the top 4 or 5. Is she like Samantha Cesario in that it hurts her foot to do a triple toe as the second part of a combo?

I do not know if she will try a 3Lz3T or something else; but since we've never seen her do it, she hasn't been trying it in summer competition, and she popped the 3Lz2T last year into a 3Lz1T, I'm keeping my expectations on what I've seen.

She has a very smart team. She's noticeably better in those aspects since USN. It's going to be fun watching her continue to improve. She might be noticeably better in another six months too.

death threats over podium placements? :slink: those people might need to seek medical help asap :whack:
I think with the rise of the popularity it created a bigger space for this craziness as well. There are people who watch a koala vid and call it a day, see themselves as very big experts and decide to take it upon themselves to "punish" those, who weren't punished by the judging panel to their liking. :noshake:
The determination though to hurt the skaters is kind of surprising.

Ah. So we have more people who think that. It's good to know. (In case you didn't see the conversation a few pages ago, I got pushback when I made a similar remark.)

It would be legal to do a 2Lo as the second jump in the combination and 3Lo as the solo jump, or vice versa -- the solo jump is allowed to be either double or triple in the junior SP.

However, that is a risky strategy. If the skater ends up doubling the intended triple loop and doing the other double loop as planned, then one of them will get asterisked out and earn no points at all.

Ugh! If we’re all thinking about this, what must Gabriella and her team be thinking?!? This is tough. I wonder what she’ll do. Only 6 days to find out.

Agree. Anytime a minor is involved, comments and like/dislike ratios should be disabled. In Alysa's case it might have been her agency/management/PR team. (Trusova also has a management team that removed all of her videos from You Tube)

Alysa’s 4Lz at LP was forward takeoff and near forward landing with a clear fishhook on the exit.
It’s underrotated. I had looked at her other 4Lzs earlier which were similarly underrotated. I hope she can correct it eventually as I hope Team USA can be competitive to the Russians for the team gold in Beijing.

Isabelle Inthisone has no recent videos up, so I don’t know what to expect from her this weekend. Does she do the difficult jumps? Does she have any special qualities?

While I agree, I should say that forward takeoffs like this are not penalized for any skater. As far as the landing goes, it did look hooked but a lot of skaters will get credit for these landings (like a 2019 Worlds), whereas other times these landings are called <.

I know were still talking about Alysa, but a new week for the JGP is coming in a few days. Gabriella Izzo will be skating along with Isabelle.

Gabriella is working on her +Lo combo in her FS. She’s probably going to a basic +2Lo in her SP. She has summer score of 169 senior she also got 166 at Glacier Falls. While she did score in the 180s last season, I’m expecting a range of 160-170 for this weekend.

I can’t find much information about Isabelle. She was 3rd at novice level last season. She was also working on a eu+3S combo. She won Philly International junior in August with a score of 148. I expect a similar score this week.

Do we know what she's getting for GOE on her quad? I still don't know the point variation between a quad with an UR and a clean triple. Isn't it worth it for her to go for the quad and take the UR point wise?
