2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

I would be tickled pink if Bradie gets a 3A in a few years. Talk about doing it backwards!

She's got the performance side nailed and doesn't really need to fight for her US spot with Alysa being so young still. She's got time to up her tech.

She is very tall for a figure skater which is my only worry. But she's done growing so at least she knows what she's working with.
Following up on your comment of Bradie being tall. Height of ice skaters is usually pretty deceptive.

I always thought Nancy K was about 5'8" but she is closer to 5'2"

I believe Gracie is about 5'6" whereas Brandie is probably closer to 5'4"

Relative the tiny Russian girls and Alyssa Liu, Bradie is tall but when compared to most Americans, no one would call Bradie tall.

Anything is possible, but I'm guessing that Alysa will not only win, but win by a huge margin. Maybe 20 points or so after the long. Like Trusova, Alysa thrives on competition and rarely melts down. It is a race for the quads and/or 3A's, and by the time we are gearing up for the Olympics those who are landing 3A's and quads will replace those who are not-and skating skills will matter very little. It is a new world for women's figure skating.
You mean like the men? They need at least 1-2 quads to be a true contender.

Jason Brown is a unique case. He is consistent (and a beautiful skater!) but relies on those with a quad(s) to make an error which opens the door for him. I can see Bradie falling into that same category at Worlds.

Bradie actually is about 5'6. I ran into her a lot at Skate America and she was my height in sneakers. That would make her taller than the average American woman. I think what makes her seem even taller is she has long limbs.

Bradie is not 5’4. She is 5’7.

Bradie is pretty tall for a skater. although she was on skates she was considerably taller than me (5' 1") while i was boardside at nationals last season.

Nancy Kerrigan is 5'4-5'5. She is not close to 5'2; she towered over Kristi and Tonya Harding when they were on podiums together.

Best of luck to our ladies competing this week. Mariah Bell and Starr Andrews will compete in France whilst Isabeau Levito and Mia Kalin will be competing in China (Advanced Novice). ...

Good luck also to Gabbie Izzo :yay:, whom you forgot to mention.

Gabbie is entered in the Challenger competition -- Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy -- in China this week.

Happy 20th Birthday today to Amber Glenn. :hb:

I've seen Tonya a couple of times and she is tiny. I've also seen Kristi and she and Tonya are both very small. I must say that Tonya is much smaller in person than she appears on TV.

Nancy is about 5'3 and Bradie is 5'6 bordering on 5'7 out of skates.

Skates depending on boot and blade brand will give a skater 2-3" in height.

Wiki says Bradie is only 5'6. I think she is just one of those lucky folks with naturally very tall, long-limbed proportions, no matter her actual height :D (Same goes for Young You, who looks positively statuesque at times yet is only 5'5 in reality.)

According to their ISU bios, Bradie is 168 cm (5'6"), Eunsoo LIM is 164 cm (5'4") and Satoko MIYAHARA is 152 cm (4'11").

5'5" / 5'6" IS tall for a female figure skater. And yes, it is her showgirl legs that make Bradie look even taller than she is.

Evan Lysacek was 6’2 and although he struggled with his quad he could do it, plus he didn’t have as huge incentive to perfect it as skaters today.

Joubert and Plushenko were both 5’10, about average for men, but I don’t see why a lady with a similar height and frame couldn’t do what they can. Bradie has a frame similar to some lanky male skaters. Height definitely is a factor but I don’t know it is determinative.

they are MEN, they have very different body with WOMEN.... dont compare them lol. If they are the same there should be 20-30 ladies landing 3A since Midori did it 30 years ago, or 20 ladies landing quads

Women put on both fat and muscle mass in a different way than men. Trusova and Kostornaia seem to be building a compact and narrow yet muscular frame, which seems to be the current "correct answer" for girls with consistent 3A/quads, but they are still significantly shorter than Tennell and as is Tuktamysheva (who is positively TINY in person). If they were taller, I suspect their muscles would be too heavy for consistent jumping (Joubert struggled with this). I would be very curious if Tennell could build the same sort of body and attain 3A/quads, but that would be a huge gamble that might throw everything else about her elements out of wack.

But maybe next off-season she'll go back to Mishin and (crossing my fingers) won't have an injury, and can work more towards harder jumps?

And in fact, Bradie has narrow hips and shoulders and decent rotation speed. I DO think she needs specialized coaching for jumps, and I hope she gets it this summer.
