2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

they are MEN, they have very different body with WOMEN.... dont compare them lol. If they are the same there should be 20-30 ladies landing 3A since Midori did it 30 years ago, or 20 ladies landing quads
Obviously, my point was not that all men and women are exactly alike or that in general, women may not face more difficulties with quads/3As due to their builds. Only that certain women who have a build more like men who can do quads may be able to do quads. The puritan view that men and women are different and women are inherently unable to do certain things is outdated, as shown in many different sports currently.

Bradie said she’s working on getting higher jumps. She’ll probably work on a 3A again when she’s all healed.

I hope she stays healthy.

I get the impression that it's MUCH more difficult for older athletes (sorry Bradie, you're old in this sport) to get the 3As/quads than the prepubescent athletes, but it is possible. Mirai got a 3A, but it took years, and that was with Tom Z., who despite all of his other flaws as a coach, teaches a fantastic 3A. Bradie can probably do it given a few years of training it, but I hope she stays healthy in the process.

Exciting to see our top novices getting some international exposure this week! Mia Kalin and Isabeau Levito are both at the Asian Open. I know Isabeau is 12 now and will be eligible for the JGP next season, is Mia the same age or is she still 11 and have to wait an extra year before the JGP?

Bradie has bien working with Mishin in off season, ver jumps are more consistent y si much less called UR

I think that's a very smart decision - going to Benoit for choreo and Mishin for jumps. I wouldn't be too surprised to see Bradie acquire a 3A somewhere down the line. Yes she's old and pretty tall, but none of her jumps look barely wrenched out (UR aside). With her work ethic and Mishin's jump coaching prowess, I can see it happen!

It's not puritanical to understand the physics of the body rotating and recognize that a healthy adult female body is going to have a harder time rotating quickly than a man's body. Or that a girl's body is going to be able to rotate more quickly than it will when she has a healthy adult body. Eating disorders are not rampant in this sport because female, or male, skaters don't like food.

Following up on your comment of Bradie being tall. Height of ice skaters is usually pretty deceptive.

I always thought Nancy K was about 5'8" but she is closer to 5'2"

I believe Gracie is about 5'6" whereas Brandie is probably closer to 5'4"

Relative the tiny Russian girls and Alyssa Liu, Bradie is tall but when compared to most Americans, no one would call Bradie tall.

Yep, I always thought Todd Eldridge was tall. Then I ran into him in a hotel elevator at a competition. Nope, not tall. At all.

Don't gorget Ayaka Hosoda who learned and landed a 3A at the age of 23.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bradie gets 3A or 4T in the future, she has pretty good rotation speed and air position, but I also wouldn't count on it. I'd like to know how far along she got training them before she got injured. I wonder if there was a lot of progress or not.

In other news, Mia and Isabeau seem to be in China for a competition, I think. Cute duo of (possible) future champs... Good luck to them :)

With Mariah's win at Nebelhorn and Bradie's relative success in the GP's, I've completely forgotten about Ting. Have there been any updates regarding her health and/or when she expects to be back? Would be a shame if she completely skipped her senior debut year, but her health and long-term goals should trump all else.

In my opinion, she was the only potential spoiler to the Alysa-Bradie-Bell nationals podium (and Bradie-Bell worlds team). Hope she comes back better and stronger than ever!

She posted recently on instagram, not there anymore, that she had reinjured her ankle(?) jumping off ice and would not be competiting in her grand prixs. She was hoping to be back for nationals where she could potentially challenge for a 4CC/World spot, but I'm not sure if she would be in better shape compared to Bradie and Mariah at nats.

According to TSL, Ting has been at home and hasn’t trained with Tom Z since Champs Camp.

Hoping for her healthy return this season!

Mia Kalin said she’s working on a 4T and she said she hopes to put it in her program VERY soon. I’m thinking Nationals or next season.

Tom Z was with Ting at 2019 U.S. Classic, well after Champs Camp.

Starr Andrews Ready To Shine In Her Second Grand Prix Season

[Off topic: Don't agree with the author's usage of "lucrative." I think "valuable" was the intended meaning?]

I absolutely agree with you. It's like the author used a thesaurus to come up with a fancier-sounding alternative to "valuable" and inadvertently chose a word with totally different connotations.

I agree. Ting has more long term potential then Bradie or Mariah and not just because she is younger but she's not a strong competitor. Some skaters like Alysa you just know they aren't going to melt down after a mistake but with skaters like Ting or Gracie in the past when the first mistake happens they seem to lose the performance and don't fight for their jumps.

Unfortunately, as beautiful and high-potential of a skater Ting is, I have to agree with you. She demonstrated that very well at US Classics - stunning in the beginning, but one mistake and her house of cards comes tumbling down. It's painful to be a fan of hers :drama: Very reminiscent of Gracie in her heyday as well

Just because a skater starts out as weak competitor doesn't mean they will end up as one, chase in point, Rika Kihira who was plagued by nerves and inconsistency but has gotten a bit more consistent each season. She looks really great this year. The same could happen to Ting. This is still her first senior season. I am more worried about her constant injuries.

I hope it doesn't come at the expense of her footwork. She's finally found her groove -- I love her short program -- and seems to be the only skater who consistently does a level 4 step sequence.

Same thing with actors; they're always shorter than you think!
