2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

Yep, I always thought Todd Eldridge was tall. Then I ran into him in a hotel elevator at a competition. Nope, not tall. At all.

There are a not a lot of tall skaters that I have seen other than Evan. I believe Ryan Bradley was the tallest skater at Nationals the year he won.

Mia Kalin skated cleanly and placed second behind Chinese National Silver medalist Xiangyi. Isabeau fell on a downgraded 3Lz and is in fifth place. She skated just a few days ago at a regionals event, so I expected this. I hope for two amazing free skates from both.

I wasn’t expecting Isabeau to fall 🧐 she never does. Yes I’m sure she’ll do better in the free as they can do triple triples there

I walked by Javi and was stunned by how short he was. It is really hard for me to tell when they're on the ice. There's no frame of reference.

Mia and Isabeau won silver and bronze medals respectively in the Advanced Novice event.

Their freeskates:

KALIN (2nd): 74.36 (42.07+32.79)

nice job girls, i am sure they are both very happy to earn medals at their first international competition.

i'm also glad they are being called for URs and downgrades. their teams will know what they need to work on at a very early stage.

Got my fingers crossed for Mariah for a good SP (nail that 3-3), it is going to be tough to get on the podium with Alina, Alena K and a few others in the mix for medals.

Mariah has a good shot at her first GP medal since Skate America in 2016! She has a decent cushion above Starr, Kaori, Wakaba. As much as ai like all of them, they haven’t shown clean FS yet. Mariah did well at Nebelhorn and has momentum going!

If Mariah can put together a clean skate tomorrow, she should be in contention for bronze. Her PCS was lower than the Japanese ladies, but not by much and you are right, she has built momentum.

Did anyone else catch the side-eye from Kostornaia as Mariah came off the ice?

I wouldn't call it a sideeye. She just seemed bummed about her score and wanted to see how others were scored for context. It was a bit unexpected to see her out by the boards, but it's her first competition and she was by herself for a while since her coaches had another skater to put on the ice. It didn't seem like Raf or Mariah paid too much attention.

Didn't look like a side eye to me. In the slow mo replays, Raf and Kostornaia are in the background watching Mariah skate. Kostornaia's coaches went off to support Alina (who had yet to skate), so naturally Kostornaia had nothing to do but hang around and watch.

:otopic:

I can't find the Ice Dance thread......However, I just want to say how much I love Madison Chock. Chock and Bates looked amazing in France and I'm so proud of them,

A good day for US ladies today! Mariah has been killing it this season, and now she has a GP medal! A huge score too. That free skate was just amazing, and it looks like she's improved from last season. She must be really happy with that. And a fifth place for Starr is definitely not bad.

Mariah was amazing! I don't like her SP, she performs it well but it's too noisy, but I love her LP. It's so... how it used to be. You have time to relax and enjoy while she is preforming and adding points but you don't feel those points, just the music and her smiling and gliding, making everything look so smooth and easy. I also like Alina and Alena but Mariah stole the show tonight. And finally she got those PCS she deserves. I saw on the russian girls forum that some people said that they expect her not to get "those ridiculous marks" at Cup od Russia.Well, I agree with them, but for very different reasons, that it will be very difficult to get those well deserved marks in Russia with 3 russian girls competing. Still, she has room to improve, she got un underrotatian at her last lutz. I really needed an american girl to break the ice. And Mariah had it for so long but didn't deliver it. Bradie doesn't do it for me. I hope Rafael can do with Mariah what he did with Ashley or even better. I think Ashley came to him at the same age that Mariah has now. Go Mariah!
