2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

Yes, that 1996 Worlds program by Kwan was great. Andrews looked very awkward. She needs to up her game or she will forever be second tier.

She needs to really work on her basics. SS is very mediocre, for some reasons, US female skaters seem to neglect this. Few have the sort of strong gliding and sophisticated footwork as displayed by MKwan or Gracie’s ability (in her prime years) to use edges to gain speed.

Yes. Pretty sure they did the same thing last year. They probably want everyone to get the Figure Skating pass on NBC Gold (where you can watch everything).

Yes, but at least last year, there was still a bit of YouTube. Now they're cracking the whip on copyright.

Well, that's annoying. I already pay for regular cable and regular NBC, but I guess that's not enough nowadays.

Her SS are quite weak but compared to last year there is a real improvement. It is obvious that she is making an effort.

Amber, the sole American ladies representative in China, skated to a respectable 3rd in the SP!

Comparatively, her PCS should not have been over a point below Liza, especially with Liza's fall and lack of commitment to the program (Amber on the other hand was very committed). I think she should've been a little bit closer to the 70 mark, but oh well. Being in the 2nd group and not having reputation hurt Amber, but she still has a shot tomorrow. She's not a heavy hitter like the others (Young 3A, Liza 3A, Satoko PCS), but with a consistent skate she could find herself snatch a bronze.

Amber's scores and placement go well beyond respectable, IMO, and I am downright overjoyed for her. :hap93:

I haven't looked at video yet, but her TES was second highest. Plus her total segment score, TES, and PCS all were personal bests.
ETA: Level 4 for everything and no negative GOE.

Best of luck to Amber in the FS tomorrow. :yay:

USFS tweeted video of Amber's SP at Cup of China. https://twitter.com/USFigureSkating/status/1192909660849721344 (Nov 8)
I'm sure other videos are out there -- just making note of this one.

If Amber can keep her placement at 3 (thus helping keep Elizaveta & Young at 4 or lower), that would really improve Bradie’s chances of making the Final.

Liza or Young must get 2nd to beat Bradie in a tiebreaker. If they place 3rd, Bradie gets in due to having a higher placement (2nd) even though they tie in GP points (22). Satoko must also get 2nd or 3rd here in order to still have a chance. Amber would need to claim silver in order to securely block them out in Bradie's favor. Satoko is in 2nd right now, but the podium is far from decided as they are all very close.

Agreed. Anna will be hard to catch, but everyone from 2nd to 5th are separated by fewer than 5 points. I'd favor Liza for silver at this point, just because she's been laying down solid LPs all season. I do hope Amber skates well, because it would make Nationals more exciting to have another talented skater vying for a Worlds spot.

I am impressed with Amber making the most of this opportunity. The American ladies are all showing glimpses that they want on the team. Mariah and Bradie are in the lead. But there are flashes of brilliance or hope from others like Starr and Amber.

If Amber can skate cleanly and reach her 200 goal, she would be right in the mix at Nationals. If she still doesn't hit 200, I'd say she'd remain a clear tier below Mariah and Bradie.

She will need a 132.31 ... which should be doable with a relatively clean skate. She scored 120.19 at US Classic with six triples (popped lutz), UR, level 3's, and subpar PCS. This might be a pivotal moment for her this season, as she will need momentum going into Nationals for a shot! She's looking stronger than Starr and Karen though, so she might get a 4CC spot if Ting isn't back in shape.

If Amber is able to place third overall , a GP medal would be a wonderful breakthrough for her.

No offense to Bradie (whom I like also :)), but for me, I would consider the significance for Amber more important by far.

*praying for whatever it takes to get Bradie into GPF*

Bradie and Rika are my two favorites. I will have the best meltdown if they both make GPF.

Bradie has my favorite programs of this season. Excellent programs terrifically executed.
