2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

Omg Alysa! Crazy wonderful lil bean!!!!! Absolutely nuts but so exciting!!!!!!

I wonder why Kamila has no quads.... That's very strange.

Alysa Liu’s 3A+2T, 4Lz+3T, 4Lz, and 3A. Insane. Great improvements in her jumps too, but still needs more speed. She doesn’t hesitate as much anymore.

That's a ridiculous layout and if she lands it not only will she be the first skater to land a 3A and quad in one program, she'll be the first to land two 3As and two quads in one program!

The speed is still lacking but I do think she had a nice smooth flow out of her jumps...just needs more speed.

However, the extension and completeness of her movements between the jumps were very nice. She has a lovely quality of movement that should serve her well as she continues to improve and mature.

A medal of any color would be amazing. Alysa would be the first American to medal since Hannah Miller won silver back in 2012-2013. If she wins, she'd be the first since Becky Bereswill back in 2008-2009. A win would also snap a 9-year streak held by the Russians who've won since 2010-2011.

All I can say is that Prediction game participants might be well advised to place Alysa first. Ice is slippery, but with this layout she can fall once and still win. Also, her PCS should be fairly increased to 31/62 based on the practice clip from this morning.

Alysa still needs more speed, might help make the jumps higher (hopefully she won’t pre rotate as much as time goes on).

Imo, Alysa need to catch up in GOE not only BV, we have seen Sinitsyna who didnt have any quad/3A getting 215, higger than Alysa 208 point (she's not perfect across program but even if she is it wont be much more than 215~220 range). She usually get only 1.5 point GOE in 3A/4Lz while Valieva got mote twice than that on her 4T. I do agree with judges her jump is not the most beautiful hence low GOE but i appreciate her guts and bravery, she's only like 14 yo

No doubt Alysa has a lot to work on. I think her 3As look better but her 4Lzs need more work. She also needs to improve her SS which is something that Sinitsyna excels at. However, she is very young. So my primary hope is that she stays healthy. Alysa seems to have an amazing fighting spirit like Trusova. I respect that.

Maybe Starr and Elsa weren't so perfect in Zagreb, but they are still 2nd and 3rd respectively after the SP.

Also at Zagreb:
The two US junior pairs teams are first and second after the SP.
Wolfkostin / Chen are in first after the Junior RD
Lucas Altieri is in first after the Junior Men SP

To be fair, the scores were inordinately low at the Gdansk JGP across the board. 208 is an outlier. If Alysa skates clean, I expect her total GPF score to be around 230.

I think that is a bit of a stretch. No doubt Alyssa will have ver high BV but she doesn’t really get much in terms of GOEs. In addition, she has not shown enough outside of jumps to justify higher PCS. The SS is particularly mediocre, something I have noticed in a lot of US female skaters. The lack of flow and edge control and turns are glaringly obvious.

Kamila is looking shaky though, as if she has been off the ice for a while. (Injury?). I don't think Alysa will have any problem winning this, jumps are rotated and landed easily, even if her skating is slow. Russia has an outstanding group of 12 year olds, but this years' juniors are a bit weak by Russian standards. I think the biggest wake up call will be for the Korean and Japanese juniors, who are not keeping pace with the quad race. I look for this to change quickly. LOL.

Alysa may not have the PCS of skaters like Kamila yet, but i have a feeling she may pull a Trusova and win off a huge technical score. if she's clean i can't imagine the others keeping up with that layout.

No matter what happens, I hope these young skaters have a great experience. Just getting here is a huge accomplishment.

Congratulations Alysa on a seasons best and first place finish in the SP! :yahoo::rock:

It looks like she's been working on a lot of things, especially her expressiveness. Everything is improving little by little, and I'm sure she'll increase her speed across the ice over the next year.

Oh my our baby girl is becoming a young lady before our eyes.

Kamila Valieva has had a foot injury. That's why she looks a little shaky---probably due to reduced practice time before the GPF.

Apparently Alysa has been working with Carolina Kostner since April of this year either live or using video chat and since her biggest weakness is her speed and skating skills who better to learn from. I already see some improvements in just the last few months with her speed and flow out of her jumps. Alysa knows what she needs to improve on and doesn't take anything for granted. What a great mentor to learn from i expect with such a teacher that Alysa will continue to improve.
