If she hopes to make another World/Olympic team, she probably has to. Although she finished 4th, she is miles behind where Bradie and Mariah are right now.
Beverly Zhu was rumored to have funding around $300k/yr after switching to representing China.
Karen’s Nats result after 2-3 weeks of solid training has boosted her up. I’m sure she can progress if going back to full time skating.

Elsa Cheng and Ellen Slavicek both did well in their Short today at Bavarian Open:
- Elsa Cheng landed a 3Lz+3T (+1.53), 3Lo, and 2A
- Ellen Slavicek landed a 3Lz+2T, 3Lo (Fall), and 2A
Elsa is in first with a score of 60 and Ellen is in third with a score of 47.

I think it means she knows she has to make a decision whether to train full-time or continue at Cornell and split her time. But she clearly decided to devote the 1 1/2 weeks before 4CC to skating.
One of the interesting points she made is that she accomplished more not just devoting full-time, but because of the training environment and the people she trained with. Not everyone can self-direct, and from what she said, she's not a loner.

I watched the Junior ladies---Elsa was lovely. Ellen had a rough skate, with a fall on the loop and then 2 hands down on the 2a.
Note that there are two Groups of Juniors. Elsa is in Group I, where she leads Kaya Ruiter by 3.1 points. Kaya was good, too, but she struggled a bit with her 3z+3t (which looked << to my eyes).
Ellen is in Group II, headed by Canada's Madeline Schizas (3rd at Senior Nationals) with 56.1; Madeline fell on her 3lo too. Second was Serena Roblin (ITA) with 50.48.

True but she is capable if she trains hard and doesn't UR. I am not sure if Liu is eligible for seniors next year but if there are three spots for the US she has a decent shot of earning a world position.

Does anyone know if Gracie Gold is getting any international comps for the rest of the season? It is rare that a12th place finisher who isn't super young is getting so much attention? I wonder if she will be put on the US C team or something.

As others have said, pretty sure Karen is intending to go back to Ithaca after 4CC. It just probably didn't make sense to go back right after Nationals.... with the short turn-around time between Nationals and 4CC. And extra training would certainly do her good.

I think going to college was really good for both Vincent and Karen. Maybe the scheduling didn't quite work out for either of them but it must have certainly broadened their horizons and given them fresh outlooks. And perhaps they've also come to appreciate skating more because of it.

She doesn’t meet the requirements. If she were to be assigned to an international comp she would be on the reserve team. I don’t think there is anything really to send her to for the rest of the season. If she did summer comps, and did well in them, USFS might choose to send her to SA as a host pick. At this point I personally feel making her go back through Regionals and Sectionals would be taking a place away from someone else, but that’s just my opinion.

I wonder why Karen does not take classes at a school in Colorado. That would make it so much easier for her.
Ivy league schools do not accept transfer credits. She would still have to pay for and carry the full load at Cornell.

I don’t know that this list is 100% up yo date. Emily zhang is not listed and did an international in the beginning of January. I think Gracie already has plans to start getting ready for next year and has some training sessions scheduled and at least one show.

Such a shame Alysa won't be eligible for seniors next year even though she will be 15 - the same age as Scherbakova and Trusova are now. I'm curious why the birthday cutoff is July when typically schools use Sept as a cutoff.
Is anyone else already in anticipation of who will make up the Olympic team? I still have high hopes for Starr & Amber. I also can't wait for Ting and Hanna to return.

Congratulations to Elsa Cheng for taking silver at the Bavarian Open in the Junior ladies’ division. Cheng landed six clean triples and under-rotated an attempted 3Lz+2T. Cheng was in first yesterday after landing a gorgeous 3Lz+3T, 3Lo, and 2A. Not a clean Free but a great improvement from Nationals. Cheng is currently learning the 4T and trains alongside Bradie Tennell, Isabelle Inthisone, and Calista Choi.

PS: Her Lutz seems to be too big for her to control at the moment. Hopefully she’ll be able to control it as she ages and experiences more competitions. What a wonderful jumper.

Who designs Alysa’s costumes? And Bradie’s (Bradie has had 3 or 4 long program dresses this season) ?
