2021-2022 U.S. Men's Figure Skating

If so that Is insane. What if (God forbid) something we’re to happen?
I think there are still a couple of Chinese airlines that still have direct flights from the U.S. and Canada (I know there are at least a couple of departures from LAX directly to Beijing every day) which might be just as good an option as the chartered Delta flight and it does look like the skaters are spread out on different flights with Mariah not leaving LA till Jan 29th or 30th (she posted yesterday that she was leaving in 4 days).

ETA: But LA is not a hub city so I don't know if they would be allowed on those flights.... I think they might have to fly to a hub city first.

I meant having them all on the same plane in case of crash. US Figure Skating never has everyone on the same plane. I guess if USOC tells them to they have to?

My two cents, based on nothing: (and I have been very wrong before:laugh:)

There is not just one "charter" airplane. I think there is one nicely painted Team USA airplane, but one airplane will not carry all Olympians, coaches, assistants, officials, etc.

There will be charter flights arranged by the organizing committee. (Jackie Wong talked about taking one of these). They will take off from wherever.

Skaters may need to fly commercial to get to those flights (as Ashley Cain Gribble did to get to LA). I just can't imagine any Olympian is flying commercial all the way from their point of origin to China.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it

I know what you meant (1961). 😥 I hope the NGBs would have a say and be allowed to refuse?

I called a friend in LA. So... Delta had a flight on Jan 24 directly to Beijing (refueling in Seoul) that then flew back to LA (without passengers so must be charter) and again today on Jan 27th arriving in Beijing tomorrow after refueling in Seoul. My guess is there'll be another one on Jan 30th (Mariah posted on the 25th/26th that she was leaving in 4 days) as that would be 3 days between the previous flight (Jan 24, Jan 27, Jan 30) and that Mariah, Jason, Nathan (assuming he prefers to travel with Mariah) and maybe the Montreal teams will travel together (Kaitlin replied "see you soon" to Jason). :)

ETA: So USFS is essentially spreading their skaters over two flights with Alexa/Brandon, Ashley/Timothy, Karen and Vincent leaving today with Mariah, Jason, Nathan and the Montreal teams leaving in 3 days or thereabouts. Not sure about Alysa.

I just watched Team USA IG-story they are boarding a flight right now from Delta with different athletes from different disciplines. I beat some of the figure skaters are going with that plane. And as you suggest others may leave in 3 days, so I would guess Jason is going then.

Here's an On Ice Perspective Instagram post of the end of Jason's SL program.

I enjoy their videos because they offer a non-traditional view of the skaters. This is very pretty.

I don't see it on this thread, but it might be on his Fan Fest. Haven't checked.

Tagging my friend @el henry to this one....

Edit: On review, they may have reposted a video first made in August 2019. I'll leave it up.

Thank you to my friends @TontoK and @norwegianfairytale: you know me well. :)

it soothes me to see the team gathering, and to see OnIce Perspectives, no matter the date.

since this is the men’s thread, is there a reason we think Nathan is on the later plane? Traveling with Mariah may be cool, but it’s a plane full of Olympians, Nathan will have lots of company:biggrin:

You're right. He could easily leave today without posting anything as he's turned into a bit of a social media hermit. :)

ETA: Nathan has been spotted. He's on the plane.
