2023 NRW Trophy | Nov 16-19

Oooh, there are actually 3 partnerships skating at Intermediate Novice level. There is also a partnership representing Poland that is skating out of competition.

I really like the way that we are hearing the rink announcer so clearly. And that he is keeping us up to date with everything that is going on.

Polish partnership up first.

I hope they were marked down for it!
They weren't! Which is even funnier when you consider how old some figure skating judges are. I mean I suppose if your English isn't very good you wouldn't notice.

Nice to see you too :)

Aww look at these dapper youths!

Loving the tails on this kid's tuxedo

They are really putting the effort in, aren't they! :cheer:  :points:

Not used to seeing that big a height difference in Ice Dance. But, at their age, that could change very quickly.

Very strange cover of Britney Spears' "Oops!"

Speaking of strange covers. Here is a strange cover of Radiohead's "Creep".

Nice colour and design though it is, somebody needs to tell Carolina that she needs to wear a bra, because her dress isn't leaving much to the imagination...

They are!

And yeah, in the big leagues the only significant height difference is that Chinese pair. But yeah there's sure to be growth spurts happening here.

And yeah some very interesting covers here.

Hmm there's three couples on the ice, but only two on the results page...is one of them competing out of competition?

You know, I have just had a scary realisation. The girl in the French partnership is probably young enough to have been named after Margot Robbie!

Hard to believe it is as long as 12 years ago that she left "Neighbours".

CaroLiza_fan

Awwww. That is lovely. Two of the older Polish skaters have come down to support them, and are chatting away with them afterwards.

CaroLiza_fan

I thought Carolina's name sounded familiar! I saw them last season, but Samuele was using his Chinese name, Xiaole, in front of his Italian name. So, it didn't twig with me at first that it was the exact same skaters.

That resurfacing takes us to the Advanced Novices. And I suppose you could sat we have an Advanced Novice quadruple-bill, because the two Pattern Dance segments are followed by the Short Programme segments for the Singles skaters.

But, first things first. We have 14 partnerships, arranged into a group of 4; followed by a group of 5; followed by a resurfacing; followed by a group of 5.

Since this segment will take about 1h 20m to get through, I will do a separate post for PD2. Even though we are going straight from the last group of this segment to the first group of the next segment.

Livestream for Advanced Novice Pattern Dance 1 is now on air.

Here is the link for the livestream:

Here is the Time Schedule:

Oooh, they have really enhanced the coverage since the resurfacing.

Not only do we have a TES box, but we also have replays after they have finished with a picture-in-picture box in the corner showing the LIVE pictures.

By the way, I like the way that the Judges are arranged alphabetically according to their country. Although, it meant that that the Estonian Judge had to swap from seat 2 to seat 1 during the interval, as the Austrian Judge was replaced by a French judge.

Rematch for a number of these teams, funnily enough. Vaclavikova/Morozov (SVK), Cachova/Brom (CZE) and Kobor/Kobor (GER) were all on the podium at the Pavel Roman Memorial less than a week ago (and I also remember Stefanovova/Boeris (SVK), who unfortunately had a very rough Free Dance). 😄

I think partnership #2, Antonina BORYSEWICZ / Jakub JANICKI, were the older Polish partnership that were supporting the out-of-competition Intermediate Novice Polish partnership earlier.

Yes, they are because the wee girl was waiting at the boards for them. The boy isn't with them, but I wonder if he is the brother of the guy in this partnership. I can't wind back the stream to check, but from what I remember his surname did sound something like Jacub's.

The wee girl's surname was Kovalenko, so she isn't the connection. (I wonder if she is the reason that they were skating out of competition, though. Is she under embargo after a country switch?)

With concentrating on the Denkova-Staviski Cup last week, I completely forgot about the Pavel Roman Memorial. So thank you for this insight.

It's always interesting when skaters get a re-match very quickly.

Yes, particularly if teams had big mistakes, like Stefanovova/Boeris, who fell twice in the Free Dance. Hoping most of the teams make it through without falls this time, but it's Novice Ice Dance, and twizzles, lifts and slides are still very hard for many of these kids.

Ice Dance might look easy, but it takes a long time to master all of these elements.

Haha the rink announcer is talking about the rink's cafeteria now, which is oddly amusing to me.

Ach, I missed that (and the Warm-Up) because I took the opportunity to go and sweep up leaves at the side of the house. Storm Debi came through NI a few nights ago, and blew a pile of leaves off the trees behind us. (Thank goodness that was the worst of it here. There was flooding in other parts of NI).

Still have to do the front of the house, though. Maybe next resurfacing.
