2024 Denis Ten Memorial Challenge Junior Competitions

Absolutely beautiful traditional costumes in the colours of the Kazalh flag being worn by the girls assisting the presentations.

Awww. Vasilisa and Veronika are so tiny compared to Anna!

Have to be honest, I am not familiar with the Cypriot anthem. Well, it's actually the Greek anthem. But, you know what I mean.

Wish they were flying the flags above the podium like they do in motorsports. It makes a great photo!

Hang on. Has the German girl in 2nd withdrawn? That's Vasilisa warming up!

She has!

:cheer: ALL THE BEST VASILISA!!! :cheer:

She posted on Instagram that she twisted her ankle and couldn't compete. So not something she ate, like you thought it might have been...at least not for her :D

Oh dear. I never like hearing about people injuring joints, because they are nasty things to get healed.

I twisted my ankle one time years ago (funnily enough, in Cyprus!), and it still sometimes gets sore.

Thank you for the heads up. :thank:

Get well soon Valentina!

I loved that opening programme from Abay SADYKOV (KAZ)!!!

The music was beautiful!

He was wearing a black jumpsuit, with what at first I thought was a gold sash, but which soon became clear was a gold chevron pattern on the jumpsuit.

And the skating was good! He went clean.

Hey, they're not wasting any time this morning. The highlights had barely more than finished when the scores were announced, and then the next skater was starting!

Well, they do have a lot to get through today, what with there being a Gala.

It was going very well for the second skater too, Kenan BERDIBAYEV (KAZ), but then he had a messy landing on a jump about half-way through, where he had a double-hands down. According to the graphic at the side, it was called as a fall.

But, that was just a blip. There were no problems after that.

He was wearing a greeny-whitey top, with black trousers. But, the pattern from the top extended down one of the legs of the trousers.

His music was nice too.

He goes into 2nd in both FS and overall.

Aha! I've heard this song before! Can't remember what it is. But it's in French.

Temirlan YAKIYAEV (KAZ) was wearing a red top that blended into black as you went down it. And black trousers.

Although there wasn't much covering the skaters in the first group in the SP, there was a very noticeable jump in the quality of the skating when Temirlan came on. It just showed how the fall in the SP had held him back.

It was going very well for him today, but then he had a fall in the second half. It didn't seem to bother him, though.

He went into a big lead in both the FS and overall. By exactly 10 points in the FS, and 12.83 points overall.

And he was delighted when his scores were announced!

A Queen programme from Ansar ISMUKHAMBETOV (KAZ)!!!

"Don't Stop Me Now" and "Bohemian Rhapsody". The former was good, but the edits to the latter were awful! 🙉

He was wearing black trousers with a T-shirt that could have been bought out of Primark.

No falls.

He went into 4th and last position in both the FS and overall. However, it was only by 1.06 points in the FS and 0.43 points overall.

He was very happy with his scores.

I want to know what this music is! The lyrics made me think of a sea shanty, but it sounded nothing like any sea shanty I had ever heard before. It was so haunting. And I absolutely loved it!

Nikita KOZLOV (KAZ) was wearing all black. But he had a blue sash on top.

I think he skated well. I was too mesmerised by the music to tell.

Oh, maybe he didn't. He looks annoyed and frustrated sitting waiting for his scores.

Ah. He goes into 5th and last position.

But, boys, but there isn't much covering the bottom three skaters!

Jari KRESTYANNIKOV (FIN) was skating to "Strange Game" by Mick Jagger.

Not a song I would ever of thought of somebody skating to. But, it seemed to work.

Then it changed to a guitar instrumental. It might have been the Rolling Stones, or it might not. I don't know.

He was wearing a black shirt and black trousers.

Jari was really going for it. But, it wasn't always working out. For example, he had a pop. And he made a right mess of the sit spin that he was finishing with, ending the programme on his backside.

He goes into 2nd in both FS and overall.

Surprised he wasn't called for a fall.

Artur SMAGULOV (KAZ) was another skater in all black.

I know the song, but I can't remember what it is. It was one of these classical crossover groups. But it descended into wailing.

He didn't have a great start, with a double-hands down on the first jump. But, it went well after that.

He goes into the lead of both FS and overall.

(Well, he did have a massive advantage from the SP over those that have already skated).

CaroLiza_fan

My goodness. Four skaters in a row wearing all black! :drama:

I liked the music that Nikita KRIVOSHEYEV (KAZ) was skating to. It was an instrumental, and it was epic!

The skating was pretty good too! ;)

I think he's done enough to win.

He has. 1st in both FS and overall. And by over 10 points in both!

CaroLiza_fan

Had to laugh at the announcer saying Silver Medallist Artur SMAGULOV's name, and then pausing to check where he was from.

For goodness sake, there was only one skater in the competition that was not representing Kazakhstan, and he finished 4th! It's not that hard to remember!

I don't know if it was because it was an all-Kazakh podium, but they showed a graphic with the three flags displayed on it during the anthem.

Still would have looked better if it was real flags above the podium. But, it's a start.
