2024 Japanese National - Men's FS

Japanese Nationals 2024 are so competitive…each year someone steps up - this year Yuma. I am sure JFS will send Rio and Tatsuya to Jr Worlds. JFS have tough decision has who to send with Yuma to Worlds; 4CC: I vote to send Kazuki and Toshiro. I feel Kao needs to restore and heal his body and mind; it’s been brutal after SA fo him.

Gosh... Yuma... (finally watched it) small mistakes but really who cares.

The quad flip is probably the best I have ever seen. Quad salchow was also delicious :)

Since Patrick, Nathan and Shoma have all retired, I have only a few faves left :) and one of them is currently and by far, the best skater in the world ;) I know I have good taste : Go YUMA !!!!!

Can I just say I dreamed last night about Shoma as commentator going (in English because it was my dream, okay?) "and these are the top skaters in the country it should be a wonderful - what on earth are you guys doing????"

I woke up before Rio started, so he didn't get an answer...

I just finished watching the Men's FS videos and, WOW, what emotions flowed. Okay, there was a fair amount of "menning" going on as several skaters had less than stellar days (for them). I was particularly gutted for Shun Sato. Nobunari brought me to tears with his absolute joy of skating. My goodness though ... the top 3 were stunningly good. Rio is a textbook perfect jumper and to think he's just barely turned 16 years old. What a future he has in front of him. And how exciting for Tatsuya to hold the lead for SO long. And .... then .... the utter brillance of the small man called Yuma. Without a doubt, my favorite skater in the world today. He wasn't perfect which means he can be even BETTER than he was at Nats (and how mind-boggling is THAT?). I was in tears AGAIN with the reaction of his Dad when he saw his son become National Men's Champion of Japan. That father-son hug was a MOMENT to remember. Oh ... wow .... I think it's going to take me awhile to settle down. It was a great way to spend a Sat. afternoon.

14. 三宅 星南 Sena Miyake (Kanku Skate)

Welcome back Sena! I'm so happy for him! We're just gonna ignore the voiceovers and the pop.
I muted the whole thing. :) He is so good though. I think something like Liszt's Sonneto 104 would fit his skating style well, the last section esp. is in the right tempo for his steps and the ending would be perfect. Why do they have to skate to crap?... I agree with you on Oshima, flamenco and Eagles, but disagree on Tsuboi and Leoncavallo. "Recitar!" (esp. sung by Placido Domingo in Zeffirelli's 1981 film) is so powerful. He can always go back to soundtracks in the following seasons.

Sota's choreo sequence and the flying camel mid-program, where even his rotation speed is in sync with the tempo of the rising scale, were choreographed and performed by a true master. The skate was a disaster.

Nobu is old style, I missed it (did he do the choreo himself or was it Benoît Richaud?). Show them, Nobu, how to skate to pop! Not sure I understand 73 for PCS, he lost them to almost the whole Rus nats crowd and half Japanese crowd, and this doesn't seem right - home judging.

It wasn't a bad event, it's just life: some people fall, some make it, everyone can't be perfect at every event.

I really feel for you :console:

I remember crying a lot during my drive home after 4CC in 2019 which I attended primarily to see Kazuki, who ended up under-performing

I'm sure Sota and Shun as well as the other boys who had a rough competition sincerely appreciate fans like you who travel a long way just to cheer for them and support them no matter how they perform

At least seeing Nobu give two good performances at his final Nationals was a positive 😊

Please take care of yourself and feel better soon~
Skating isnt anything if it is not emotion and I can well imagine the emotions the skaters and y'all felt as my wife and 3 dogs and I watched the men's free....a very "interesting" comp for sure...for me, seeing Oda out there, with four kids and a wife of what? 14 years? do so well. That was something.
