The 2024 Merano Ice Trophy - Memorial Martina Barricelli will take place Feb 22-25, 2024, in Merano, Italy. It will feature the singles discipline (Men and Women) in the junior and senior categories and will be conducted in accordance with the 2022 ISU Constitution and General Regulations, the ISU Special Regulations & Technical Rules Single & Pair Skating and relevant ISU Communications.

I am ashamed to admit that there are only two names I recognise. Both are Italian girls. And one of them is a substitute! (And well down the list at that, so she is unlikely to get competing. )

Did you see here they have a Canadian referee and a Canadian technical specialist (even if they got his first name wrong)?
(yes, we know they have been invited and paid by the organizers...but that was a kind of in-joke that international competitions have more Canadian officials than athletes).

@4everchan not only does this event have Canadian officials, more importantly it also has our favourite Italian cactus Frangipani (just in case you missed it). If my weekend plans fall through and I have time to watch this live I'll buy the streams, the men's field is too good to miss.

Day 1 of the Merano Trophy starts with an Advanced Novice double-bill, and ends with Junior chaos! The Advanced Novices consists of 32 girls; followed by 10 boys. The 32 girls are arranged into 3 groups of 8; followed by a resurfacing; followed by a group of 8.

The difference today is that we then move onto the Juniors and Seniors starting their campaigns. We begin with an Advanced Novice double-bill. 31 girls; followed by 10 boys. The 31 girls are arranged into a group of 7; followed by two groups of 8; followed by a resurfacing; followed by a group of 8.

We stay with the Juniors for the first of three Short Programme competitions. And it begins with a double-bill of girls. Juniors first, followed by Seniors. But there have been withdrawals in both competitions. There were supposed to be 30 Junior girls, arranged into two groups of 6; followed by a resurfacing; followed by two groups of 6; followed by a resurfacing; followed by a group of 6. However, the penultimate skater in Group 3, #17 Annalisa URSINO (ITA), has withdrawn. So we are down to 5 skaters in Group 3, and 29 altogether.

The stream quality today is very good if anyone is interested. Senior women will take to the ice in little less than an hour, followed by senior men at 20:25 CET.

After that rather long Junior competition, we stay with the girls for a Senior competition that is a bit shorter. There were supposed to be 10 girls, arranged into two groups of 5. However, skaters #1 Emmi PELTONEN (FIN) and #4 Stefanie PESENDORFER (AUT) have withdrawn. So we are down to 3 skaters in Group 1, and 8 altogether.

Negrello's skating is what I would describe as avant-garde. Her jumps were a bit of a struggle, but she got them done.
