There were some issues with the stream yesterday, it just cut right before the two last ladies at Advanced Novice ladies skated, meaning we missed to two top ladies that finished 1. and 2. Ella Risa Gomez finished 2nd, and I didn´t get to see her skate. A real pity because I wanted to see her new program and her reaction to getting on the podium. I know from an article she was hoping to be picked for Nordics last year, but didn´t - but this season she had two competitions with good results and one a bit shy from the podium, from the looks of it she is now the third highest scored novice at the moment, hopefully meaning she will get her wish and get a ticket to Nordics this year, this result will for sure help her on the way in gathering the best scores, and international placement will probably be valued higher.

The stream just cut and ended in a loop, and it looked like they had to take down the stream before taking it up again. There was a bit of wait before they got the stream up. It was fixed before the opening ceremony followed by the junior ladies started and after that there were no issues for the rest of the evening.

However, they put out the replay yesterday evening for Saturday, but it´s missing a lot. The streams looks to end before the last group of the advance novice girls, so there is no replay of them, opening ceremony, junior and senior at all, so a lot of missing. I suspect it´s because of the sudden interruption in the end of advance novice girls, hopefully this means they are working on getting out a part 2 from Saturday with the missing novice girls, and the rest of the disciplines. Hopefully this means they are able to get the replays of the top 2 advance novice ladies that nobody was able to watch.

Also some notes from yesterday, I was multitasking so I was watching more events at once:

Both Vivian Papp, Lena Ekker and Polina D is skating in the junior event, so I guess it´s kinda a fight between the junior ladies about possible spots for JrWorlds. Vivian is currently nr. 2 with 46 points, Lena nr. 3 with 45 and Polina, the biggest favorite to win the event, had a rough skate and is currently nr. 6 with 43 points, she fell both on her flip and lutz, so no combo.

Honestly I was horrified watching the Kiss and Cry, Polina was visibly very upset and it looked like her coach sat by her and roasted her, it looked like was pissed off about her skate, his lips were moving really fast and he spitted out a lot of words and he had a really angry face, and you could see Polina crumble under his words. He didn´t look supportive at all, just really mad that she made such big errors. I know I did not understand the words so I should be careful by concluding what was really happening, but the body languages for both seemed very clear to me.

Vivian seems to be missing her most difficult jumps, she only jumped 2F yesterday, and 3Lo-2T, but a joy to watch always. She struggles with rotations sometimes. Lena had a pretty good skate but she is struggling a bit with rotations as well, they both got jumps called. A lot can happen today stil, Polina will probably climb a lot and can still end up winning or be at the podium, she is just really 2-3 points behinds the podium and that is not a lot with her ability. Finnish lady Venla Silisalo is in the lead with 48 points.

If I´m not wrong the time difference between Iceland and Norway was 2 hours yesterday but only one hour today looking at when the stream starts, we went from DST to winter time today. I guess Iceland already changed their clock or they don´t change it all, confusing but it seems the time difference is only one hour today.

The final day of the Northern Lights Trophy is completely about the ISU part of the event. And the competitions for these levels follow the same order as they did yesterday. So we start with the 20 Junior girls.

Unfortunately, like a lot of events this season, you have to pay to watch the Northern Lights Trophy. The streams are on Solidsport's new dedicated figure skating service, Ice Stars TV. Each day's stream costs €10.

But, I am currently eating, so I wouldn't be able to watch anyway.

Now that surprises me. I thought that because you are even further north than us, that you would be all for changing the clocks.

Changing the clocks has been a running battle for years in the UK, because most people in England want to get rid of it. Every year like clockwork, TV presenter Richard Madeley is demanding that we stop changing the clocks. That's alright for him - he lives in Cornwall in the far south of England. But for people here in Northern Ireland and in Scotland, continuing to change the clocks is essential.

Credit where credit's due, unlike a lot of English people, at least Madeley does acknowledge that we exist. He says that we could have two time zones in the UK - with Scotland and Northern Ireland continuing to change the clocks, while England and Wales stop. He uses the example of America managing alright having multiple time zones in the same country. But what he doesn't acknowledge is that America is a massive country, whereas we are a group of small islands. Can you imagine how complicated it would make things having two time zones in our small islands?! Cyprus tried having two time zones a few years ago, but abandoned that after a year or two.

And then there is the added complication of what would Southern Ireland do. Would they fall into line with England and Wales, meaning that our corner of the island would be in a different time zone to the rest of the island?

No, I am all for keeping things the way they are.

No, no, no... don't make Northern England stay on summer time all year! (Unless you're going to allow the North East and Cumbria to join Scotland...). We are at roughly the same latitude as Northern Ireland.

Exactly my point. It would be stupid having two time zones. Especially because of where the logical place to have the boundary between time zones in Great Britain would be (i.e. at the border between Scotland and England).

Imagine what it would be like for the most northern town in England, Berwick-Upon-Tweed. It is practically surrounded by Scotland (for the simple reason that it used to be in Scotland). So, if you left the town at all in any direction apart from due south, you would have to change your clocks. Can you imagine how angry the locals would get if they had to change their clocks potentially multiple times a day rather than just twice a year?

These people who want two time zones need to think sensibly about what they are proposing, and admit that it would be unworkable.

By the way, for some reason I always thought you were in Scotland. So, apologies for getting that wrong.

Now that surprises me. I thought that because you are even further north than us, that you would be all for changing the clocks.

Well, I would actually like to keep the time zone we use now, CET, all year. I know people don´t like the early dark evenings, today it was starting to get dark when I came home from work, so you really feel the difference with one hour, but I would rather have the daylight earlier in the mornings. Last week I walked from the parking lot to work in darkness, today when I walked it was light, the same time. I drive really early to work, around 06.45, so it has been dark for a while now when I get up, but getting in the car today was much better then last week because I could see it was starting to get light, while last week it was pitch black. I know it won´t take long before my mornings will be pitch black again, both starting to drive and walking from the parking lot to work, but I don´t think people realize that when we enter late December if you stayed with CEST all year it wouln´t be light before around 10-11 am around 20th of December. I think it´s a huge difference between that and having daylight around 9-10 am at the darkest time of the year. If I remember correctly, around 20th of December it starts to get dark right after 3 pm and pretty dark at 4 pm, which is bad but could have been worse. I´m just thinking about the people who live further north that have complete darkness and it´s already dark around 12 pm.

Still, it seems most people want CEST and not CET all year.

I always struggle with sleep, particular in the spring when we turn the clock back to CEST, it´s nice it´s longer daylight but I don´t get tired early enough and it messes up with the sleep cycle, and the nearer you become the summer, the worse it gets. We really don´t need the long days in spring, I know one hour won´t make the biggest differences closer to June because it´s almost light all day, but it would actually help a lot during spring months before.

I remember the huge difference it was for me spending 4 weeks in Germany from mid April to mid May one year. It was getting dark there in the evenings, at least around 23 pm, so you actually got tired enough to go to bed. Flying back to Norway in the mid of May - one month before the lightest day was an experience. From getting used with darkness around 22 - 23 pm in 4 weeks, to suddenly having broad daylight at 23 pm when you are ready to sleep was a struggle. At that time I also didn´t have good curtains and a roof top window And before I left for Germany, it was still getting dark in the evenings in Norway, but a lot happen in those 4 weeks with daylight, so it was a shock coming back and not have time to adjust either gradually.

Anyways, having one time zone is the best thing one way or the another. So if we eventually end up with CEST I think it will still be better for people and their sleep cycle. I heard of friends that got up at 04.30 yesterday because their children woke up and was ready to strt the day. Yesterday I went to sleep at 21.30, I was so tired, but really, the clock was 22.30
