The 2024 Sarajevo Open will take place Feb 14-17, 2024, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event will feature the Singles (Women and Men) discipline in the Novice, Junior and Senior categories, and will be conducted in accordance with the 2022 ISU Constitution and General Regulations, the ISU Special Regulations & Technical Rules for Single & Pair Skating and relevant ISU Communications.

Looking at the entries for both parts of the event, if you wind back 40 years, this event could double as the Yugoslav National Championships. Nearly every skater that is entered is from Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia or Slovenia.

There are only 2 skaters in the whole event that are not from the former Yugoslavia. Both are Intermediate Novice girls. However, the one representing Germany has a name that strongly indicates that her heritage lies in this part of the world. The other is a girl representing Switzerland who has an Italian name.

The Sarajevo Open gets underway tonight with the Senior and Junior Short Programmes. There are no Senior boys, so the action consists of 2 Senior girls; followed by 1 Junior boy; followed by 7 Junior girls.

I don't like it when that happens, having the same skaters start the day that finished the previous day. But, I suppose at least the action finished early in the mid-afternoon yesterday. It's not like they were finishing late last night.
