2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

But she score 181 with some errors. So she might even be able to score higher. Especially if she goes back to the 3T/3T in the free. Cause her 3L was solid in the short so it might be better to go for it as a solo jump.

I don't know. She would need to keep scoring above 180 for the rest of the season and win Nationals. I don't see any other possibility.
I don’t see why not, tbh I don’t see any of the other contenders able to beat say Minsol or Lia in the coming quad so no need to send a “young” skating needing practice.

Honestly, I say whoever wins nationals should go. No one has distinguished themselves as more valuable or reliable.

The advantage of Gabby/Maddie is knowing the pressure of Olympics

The men's event at Nationals is going to be the hot ticket this year. Think the winner will be the one who can skate a good short and a good free.

I’m so happy to have tickets!
I bailed. I choked... I just didn't have the courage to take the bus and stay there for 3 days... I didn't like that they included the Sunday for competitions...etc..

BUT I will take Friday off and livestream.

It will be awesome and I am a bit jealous but it's just such bad timing for me this year ... oh well...

I worry that Skate Canada will say exactly this before nationals and then put the pressure on both the men and women that night. As a fan with a lot of experience, I’ve seen the skaters peak at Nationals then perform dismally at Olympics and Worlds afterwards. That’s what gotten Skate Canada into the ‘only one is going to the big show’ mess they are in now. I would encourage them to take a breath after nationals, then announce the results. It could still be focused on nationals, but they won’t then be boxing themselves in.
Anyhow, I’m looking forward to some great skating battles ahead.

There is a selection process.... and Nationals is just one criterion. Last two years is important. Fitness of skater at said time. etc

At this point in time, Maddie needs to step it up because her early competitions, and she has had many, were not successful. She's the skater with the most promising scoring potential considering that she has the best 3lz-3toe combo from all Canadian senior women... but she's been struggling to land it.

So many competitions to watch. I’m finally getting caught up.

For Pairs: Yohnathan and Ava got lower scores than I was hoping they would get. To me they were underscored.
I think it is safe now, that Deanna/Maxime & Lia/Trentt have secured their Olympic spots. The battle is for bronze between Y&A and K&L.

For Senior Men: the battle is only between Stephen and Romsky for the Olympic spot, and that will be decided in Finlandia & Nationals. They are well head of the rest of the field.

Grayson showed in Austria that he is our distant #3 guy. He will go to Junior Worlds most likely unless he has a disaster skate at Nationals. 4CC is also an opportunity. I think that is the reason he even competed here. To get his minimums.

The 4CC spot battle is what Keegan seems to fighting for. But, there is also Aleksa, Matthew and Wesley in the running… Wesley was great at Sectionals with a 230+ score.

first point, agreed.
second point, I think guys with quads are ahead of Grayson, someone like Aleksa or Wesley. Perhaps John Kim if he gets it together.
I don't think Keegan will go to 4CC. I think he is in there just for the Olympics. All or nothing.

For Senior Women: I think it is clear that the Olympic spot is now between Maddie and Gabby. Maddie has one more GP event and Gabby has Challenge. Everything counts. But, Gabby scoring over 180 internationally has put herself in the running.

Maddie also has too many credentials to ignore. Last season, she placed 11th at Worlds and also had a 190 skate at Skate Canada. She won Nationals and holds the Canadian record. I’m rooting for Gabby.

Kaiya is closer to securing her 4CC spot. She scored higher here in TES than at her last event but only scored 173 (5 points lower). I love her jump layout.

SMD is a close lock for 4CC. She excels at this event. Plus, her 3A will always have Canada interested in sending her out. She also has another international event to prove herself.

Challenge will be interesting. I don’t see anybody challenging Minsol, Gabby or Kaiya for the podium though.

I wonder if Minsol will be cleared in time for Junior Worlds. The fact she didn’t make it to Junior Worlds two seasons ago will put her at a full two years of not competing for Korea once 2026 starts. I hope this means she is eligible.

I agree. I don’t see Keegan going to 4CC. It is Olympics or nothing.

I think his only hope is if he skates lights out to win at Challenge with a 240+ score and then win Nationals with another 240+ score. He could do it. I just don’t think he trains hard enough to achieve this.

a couple women could challenge... Breken, Justine ? Fée Ann, Julianne... if ever someone falters just a bit.

Minsol for Junior Worlds would be good. It would probably mean more spots for JGP and worlds the following year. We need that.

Another tremendous skate by Gabby! Her comeback was the one I was most skeptical of, but looks to be easily the best, looks to be in a really good place as far as the mental and physical games go.

Kaiya had a good skate too. Her program felt a bit unbalanced to me though, like it was almost a jump drill. Hopefully she'll get more international reps in the future and can continue developing her speed and choreography

Keegan showed flashes of what was... but I just don't know, he's got a long way to go in two months.

Has anyone seen any videos from Ice Challenge? I can only find livestream for junior and below on youtube, so I think the seniors must have been behind a paywall?
