2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Now we need to figure out how to get LaLa back up the standings. Maybe White Crow was too muted. I found Loporeva/Brissaud messy and boring. Partly the music but LaLa were solidly behind them. I get the rhythm dance music was a miss and a lost opportunity for them. So what would be good vehicles for them to show the judges how good they are? They have so much passion and speed and they can be funny too

Also Carol Lane again made the point the it is critical to get our young dance teams out internationally a lot more to build reputation. Pay attention Skate Canada. More senior Bs should have a Cdn team competing. And forget Lake Placid IMO. It seems a bit biased to me. Or better still let’s have an ice dance senior B here in Canada. I vote Montreal or London (alternating)
I wonder if L/L have struggled to work out who they are as ice dancers and performers. They've stuck with a particular style this past Olympic cycle when maybe they should have tried a few different ones.

It really looks like the 2nd USA team are in the running to win worlds if the top 4 teams do not go to worlds. The USA have really done their job ( and possible paid off the right people) to make it happen. Would also not be surprised to see C/P in the running for 3rd place come worlds.

Yuck. Pushing for disqualification to win. I am feeling pretty sure Madison and Evan don't want that. Even if this succeeded. Come on, I am surely not the only one who thought Laurence and Guillaume's was the best Dance. I may not like them as persons, in fact Guillaume does not seem to be a nice person, while Laurence sticks to her beliefs in her boyfriend who I definitely don't admire. Both aren't reasons for disqualification. You don't have to be nice and kind to skate well.

Would not be surprised to see Piper and Paul end up with a silver medal here. The USA is really pushing for the French team to be disqualified because of his former partners allegations.
Can you be more specific? What group is the “USA”? Perhaps a link to the story from a reputable news source or from the actual organization. Thanks.

Thrilled for Piper and Paul to win their Olympic medal. They looked so happy. Everyone else looked pretty stoic and they were having the time of their lives, lol. Their program was stunning and certainly medal-worthy.

My poor LaLa got buried (politics), and boy are the Americans pushing their second place team to a rise so meteoric I thought they must be Russian for a second there. Zingas/Kolesnik are my favourite American team, but this is not subtle.

Interestingly, my mom (a sporadic viewer) when she watched the team event free dances, with no input from me, LOVED the Italians the most, and thought Chock/Bates were horribly overscored, lol.

I was not a huge fan of the RD, but I thought it was no worse than any of the other ones this season. At least they had a recognizable direction. And their free was stunning.

They definitely need something inspired next season to get back on track. I just worry that the politics seems really against them the last couple of years. It was like they scared the crap out of everyone at worlds in Montreal and had to be punished (and their creative team seems to have abandoned them).

I am not so sure LaLa stuck to one genre in the last years... They had this stupid RD with Austin Powers.. gosh I hated that one. They had Michael Jackson. They did a sports theme in your face RD this year. Let's not forget the parrots :)

they were trying something different this season with a Bach program... I would have loved to see that. It wasn't working out so they came back with White crow. The Jean-Michel Blais music is not my cup of tea, but that program was mesmerizing. Honestly, they have already done more styles in their young career than Guillaume or the Disco Brits in their entire life.

any link support for this? I've seen nothing to show that the usa "are paying people off". It's fine if you hate the usa teams but to make outlandish accusations is a bit much.

I agree. They are very versatile. I also loved the parrots. So why are they going down? What should they do? Dune is done (been looking for a place to say that). Please no disco or bad movie themes. More story? Not Romeo and Juliet. I trust they will work this out but interested to hear people’s ideas.

since Zach has a classical musician training, I would like something classical. They haven't really done that.

I just finished watching the ice dance.
When the British got low scores, I was thinking, wow!! We have a chance at a medal now.

P&P were amazing!! I was holding my breathe during that performance and looking at the upper left corner to make sure I kept seeing green. When the TES score came out to 75, I screamed out:
“You guys did it!!”
Then, when Paul started crying, I started crying.
What an amazing night. To me, they were the performance of the night.

go Canada 🇨🇦 🥉

We got our medal!! Hurrah!!

Why are LaLa scored so low when they’re part of IAM? I know it’s kinda crazy to talk about leaving IAM but if they’re not getting the boost from being associated with them, what’s the harm in leaving? I wonder how they would do under Scott Moir or even Benoit.

they were raised at IAM... they were there as kids, even before IAM was born... I really doubt they will ever leave Marie-France

I started to cry when P&P did those amazing twizzles directly at the judges. They were so fast, so fierce and the unison was amazing - no fear! I dare the judges to give Piper a "B"! I knew they had it then and the emotions just started and haven't stopped yet.

I think LaLa will be more in focus for the next quad at IAM. They have been there for their whole careers and I think MFD has a soft spot for them. They will also get the boost of Canada #1. I will reserve judgment until next year.
I also think that way. They got lost in the shuffle at bit the last couple years after Montreal worlds because obviously, IAM was going for the big prize and there is no way LaLa was going to be podium contenders the way ice dance works. With Piper and Paul most likely retirement, they will become Canada's first team and IAM will make sure they have better programs. I believe Marjo and Zach can skate to just about ANYTHING. They even make crappy programs look good (like their RD this year, well sort of good). Imagine with good programs. So yes. I think it's going to show significantly next season. Of course, they will need Skate Canada's support. They cannot start their season late and slow like they did the last few seasons (of course, there were injuries that set them back a couple seasons ago). They need to do challengers in Europe before their GP events. They need to build their skating the way Z/K have been the last couple years.

USA knows how to play the game. Once their top team is looking to move on they have at least one more team ready to jump right into their spot. Same in individuals too. And that is because they promote them and send them out as much as possible. They even send ones showing promise out to very minor events so they get seen and end up with good results to boost them in the world rankings.
