2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Well, Lia was on. Nothing she could do about her partner. Lia was ready to medal and score over 200. Trennt was not.

Well, a good GP weekend for you lot, even if the ID had relatively low scores. Still a second place for Piper and Paul. Cold comfort is that Lala are higher in scores than Z/K, and they are the first on the replacements list. Good for Stephan! Nice to see the gentlemen fighting it out, it's so improving for both. And Madeleine did fine this time. I was sad a little for Lia and Trennt though.

Edit: sorry, I saw that wrongly. Emilea and Vadym actually have a higher total score.

When they first started out together, I thought they were very good with them. The timing, the matching angles etc... They looked like true SBS jumps... it's been a little while that they are not doing so well on them... no idea why
Ahh. Yes, style wise they came right out of the game and had many of the trappings of a very good team style wise, no argument there

I was thinking more along the lines of actually landing the jumps... Trennt's never been real good at that

Robert Brodie interviews Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps:
“They think it’s super cool, they like this new direction for the sport. When I was younger, I competed in gymnastics and figure skating, and my mom told me I have to pick one, and I picked figure skating,” said Stellato-Dudek. “But in the ’90s, I watched (France’s) Surya Bonaly combine my two favourite sports into one movement in a backflip. And I always wanted to do it, even when I was a kid.

Next weekend is Challenge, very important for Nationals qualification.

We have prepared a lot of info about Challenge in the Nationals' section of this forum.

In the meantime,
GPF bound : Piper and Paul as well as Deanna and Max... Sad that LaLa didn't make it... but that's life.

Here's the table of medals for GP season.... Let's hope Canada picks up some more at GPF.

Of course, juniors will also be competing there too !

I would say that Sara-Maude Dupuis and Gabrielle Daleman have an edge over Maddie for the Olympic spot. Because Sara-Maude and Gabrielle did all season great SP score and not Maddie.

Sara-Maude had a better skate in the LP than at her previous events.
It's encouraging because it's often difficult to add an element like the 3a and retain the overall quality of the LP.

The 3a was of better quality here . Bravo.
She did double the lutz after that but maintained the combo (2t-2l)
She went on with a triple loop -2a (tight on 2a landing) 3flip then 3lutz (<) in the second half !!!! YES ! 3s+2t and 3loop

so that's awesome. Interesting that she is not using her 3t-3t from the SP here because it would lower her BV but if she did

3A
3t-3t
3lz
3f
3loop-2a-2a
3loop
3s-2t

It could still be interesting for her and perhaps less risky than two lutzes ? In any case, she and her coach have thought things carefully with the layout so I will leave that up to them of course :)

SMD’s jump layout is horrible though. She has no 3T, which is her most solid triple as we saw in the SP. Also, with the 3A in her arsenal, she should try two 2A’s instead of one after her 3Lo. I personally don’t like the 2A after the loop as she gets very little flow after her loops. I suggest a 3T 2A 2A somewhere in her program. She gets lots of flow with her 3T. But, the 3T disappears after her SP 😡

I think it would be good for her to remove a lutz and add a 3t. Of course, using the +2a+2a Is a good way to bring up BV.

Her first lutz was a double so she lost 3.8 points in BV and then the second lutz was < so she lost almost 2 more points there and GOE... so in the end, a skater with just two clean lutzes will make up the 3a.

Her weakest jump is the flip... so it needs to be in the first half

3a
3lz
3f
3loop-2t
3t-2a-2a
3S-2t
3loop

now for her layout being horrible... I think they are experimenting with things now that the 3a is there to stay.

BTW, she was so close to get in neutral/positive GOE..

3 judges gave it minus 1
2 judges gave it plus 1
others gave it 0

So the negative GOE was only -0.16. this is AWESOME

I'll add for SMD's layout that she had a 3Lz-2A-2A sequence as her second jump pass in the intended jump layout, so that may be what she's going for when her 3A is more consistent.

I think that they should have send Uliana Shiryaeva, Kaiya Ruiter and Gabrielle Daleman at Golden Spin Challenger. It's a mistake by Skate Canada for not having sending them. Even at Warsaw cup with Sara-Maude Dupuis it would have been a great idea to send one of them. I'm sad for those lady.

I am trying to figure out who she is....

Charly's emoji is hilarious.

From the picture, I am tempted to say it could be Lori-Ann Matte but then, if that's the case, I have my doubts about this pairing. Lori-Ann had huge issues with jumps and Charly wasn't too happy when things didn't go well...

Just watched SMDs free and it was very good. Think as she skates more frees with the 3A she will be able to improve the rest of the program.
Also even if Maddie gets the lone Olympic spot, Canada at least has some strong back up ladies who might do well at 4CC.

I think the max is two challengers and Kaiya got that.

Gabby - Should have clearly gotten Golden Spin though… especially after her 180+ skates both domestically and then internationally 😔
I guess she has to prove herself further at the Challenge event.

Uliana - that one is a mystery to me. She keeps scoring 170+ domestically and only got the Skate Canada spot. I believe she surpassed the benchmark three times. She should have been sent to Denis Ten, Warsaw or even Golden Spin in addition to the Skate Canada spot.

These two women need opportunities and deserved a second international event.

KMS - I heard before HP she was aiming for Warsaw. But, she seems like she didn’t do well enough at high performance camp and when she failed scoring over 166 at her one domestic event, in ONT, something tells me she lost that spot. So, she at least had a chance to fight for it.
