2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

I know it’s not a bandwidth problem. I think it’s a DailyMotion problem (for me, anyway). And it’s nothing new… I really wish Skate Canada would use YT. I was just curious if anyone else might be suffering with DailyMotion…
YouTube is much more likely to have music copyright issues.

As I am :scratch2::devil:. I've seen the same messy result on the lower level competitions in past years, but this is the first time I've seen Daily Motion used at the national championships level. I hope CBC will stop there and use "real TV" for worlds and the Olympics.

I'm no fan of Dailymotion, but this has been the set up for years now for Nationals. I'm pretty sure they also use it for SCI, though there is the alternative ISU feed for that so you can avoid it. Skate Canada does the live stream on DM, CBC repurposes it for Gem and their website (sometimes do their own commentary, sometimes not), and then will bring in Brenda/Kurt/Carol to redub the audio for whatever they put on tv.

FWIW, Dailymotion looks great for me today.

Well, more frustration again today. My husband tried to help and inadvertently deleted some of my apps, including Daily Motion. I re-downloaded it and it is a thing of beauty!! Woo-hoo. Happy again.

Really? I've always seen it on regular CBC with Ted and assorted friends until this year, since I got rid of my TV set and started watching it on the laptop, anyway. I don't think I've ever seen it with Kurt Browning commentating. I'll have to make sure I choose the right (ungarbled) location for the upcoming big competitions.

Did you have a CBC app on your tv? Cause that sounds like the SC feed which CBC would stream live (as they are also doing this year)... the only thing they put on regular tv is their 2-3 hour recaps they show on Saturday and Sunday afternoon

Today I actually tried the CBC Gem app first and it was kinda garbled, so switched to Dailymotion and it's been very good. Same feed either way. (I watch via a FireTV FWIW)

If you want to hear Kurt Browning comments, it's on TV.

However, it may also be available on the CBC website (no promise here).

What you are seeing with Ted is the live-streaming. It's available on the CBC website as well as on Dailymotion.

I'm a technological dinosauress. When I had a TV set, the competitions were all on CBC (or CTV in the past), so I just tuned in to Channel 2 (in BC) and watched. I gave up the set maybe ten years ago when I realized I'd only watched the 2012 summer Olympics on it (and then mainly because the two cats I had then were Olympics junkies and watched in fascination all day). Then it became a clothes rack. I found I could watch competitions on the MacBook, on cbc.ca/sports/olympics/winter/figure-skating just by clicking on Schedule/Live when something began.

This competition was the first time it said Watch on GEM, which meant nothing to me, but I clicked on it and eventually discovered there was a sports section and that I had to sign up to view it. Which I have, but with inky blurs or skaters' black costumes turning white or big smears covering half the ice. Also the annoyance of Ted and friend talking at the same time as the announcer in the arena so I couldn't hear either. (But I'd rather Ted than Kurt, of whom I'm not a huge fan on the ice or off.)

I gather that was not Daily Motion? I've seen things on that, by following a link here on GS, and the same garbled pictures happen there so I assumed GEM and Daily Motion were the same places/things/sites/whatever.

Don't waste any time trying to explain. I won't understand. I only found out in the last year that the term "app" is short for "application", which didn't help because I still don't see what connection an "application" has to a phone (I don't own a smart phone) or a computer. My friends and younger relatives are used to this. They just pat me on the head and take away my laptop to set it up or get it working again when I jinx it just by touching it, which I can do easily.

I also blow up light bulbs by flipping the wall switch. It's a gift.

I’m having the same issue and I’m watching on my tv via GEM live.

You don't need to sign up on GEM nor use the Dailymotion application.

Just follow the links I give in the OP and you should be fine.

Now, I have absolutely no streaming issues. no blur. no dots, no pixelating. I use Safari (in the past Firefox) on my Macbook. I have very good internet (bandwidth). So I would say the problem is not Skate Canada/Dailymotion/CBC or what not... but from your side of things, sorry to say.

Just saw a newsclip from CBC with Schizas. And to quote..."over my dead body is anyone else going to the Olympics."
Well let the lions match begin; though I thought typically its male lions that do this behavior.

Have to agree with you that I've gone a bit sour on Kurt over the past decade. Loved him when he was skating in the 90s and even maybe early 2000s, but I've never thought he was a good commentator at all
