2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

If you look at the scores from Euros it is looking more and more possible that the Canadian Team can win bronze if they skate like they did at Nationals. Cause I can see us finishing 3rd or 4th in each portion of the short. Then it all depends on who ends of in the top 5 and who gets assigned to skate the free programs for each country.
It is a very tight race between Canada Italy and Georgia for sure

I like two things here

1) she's alternate for JWC.
2) she wants Canada to have more spots for the next games ;)

I believe his tryouts just finished. They were announced as taking place 01/14 to 01/16. I hope he was able to find what he is looking for. If you search his details, he is unwilling to relocate. So, the training has to take place in ONT and is looking to compete in the Juniors category. So, that eliminates skaters like Cristina Lyons. Hoping he has found a Pairs partner

JGP Spots

I have mixed feelings regarding Minsol competing in the JGP circuit. Viktoria has an uphill battle to try to place in the top ten at Junior Worlds. So, we most likely will be stuck with 5 spots again. If Lia and Minsol get two spots each… only one spot left for Viktoria or Quinn or some other junior skater. I have a feeling Minsol, due to not being able to compete internationally and having no SB score would rather compete twice at JGP than possibly just compete domestically (surpass 166), and only get one international event. I was hoping that by being on the National team, that she could get a Skate Canada spot.

Upcoming events

I’m looking forward to 4CC and now that Megan posted, Bavarian followed by Skate Trophy.

4CC

Men -
I’m hoping our three men skate as well here as they did at Nationals. I’m hoping Romsky somehow ends up on the podium. I just have a strange feeling this will be his last competition.

Women - I’m so happy to cheer on our three Canadian Women. Gabby and Fee Ann have no SB listed this year. So, I want them to skate well for possible international assignments. I think if Gabby scores in the high 180s and is able to get two GP events, that will encourage her to keep going for another season. So, the event might be important for her. SMD already has a good SB of 185 and can relax and hopefully can skate lights out with the 3A now that there is less pressure

Pairs - I love our two teams and this will be a tough event. I just want them to skate as well as they did at Nationals and improve their SB scores.

Dance - Another tough event. I’m just glad our three dance teams get to compete internationally to see where they stand

@saine posted it in the retirement thread... but I am heartbroken with both Cinçon-Debout siblings splitting with their respective partners. It's making me super sad today. I hope Celestino will find a partner soon... I adore him but knowing my luck, maybe he retired.

Inputting my entries for the 4CC predication game, I realized that Canada could walk away from this event without medals. In an abundance of optimism, I have Roman on the podium, but that will depend greatly on how Shaidy is doing. This doesn't speak well for the depth of Canada's program as this quadrennium wraps up, but I guess we can hope for brighter days in the next.

Canada is sending their non-olympic skaters while some Olympians are going, among them, medal hopes. Sure, USA is deeper in dance and are sending strong pairs that don't have citizenships for the O games... Sure Japan and Korea are sending some Olympians... I mean Korea is sending their full A team. I am not too worried about it honestly. I think there are a couple dark horses from Canada but also not counting on them.

Have you looked at this year's SB scores for ladies? Once the two Japanese girls who will still be too young are removed, the score currently needed to guarantee one GP spot is 195.28. That is Starr Andrews and she is probably moving to pairs. If you move a few skaters further down to account for retirements, you are still at around 190. Quite a few high scoring juniors are likely to be moving up. Mid-high 180s could well end up being enough for one GP spot, but I'm not sure about 2. It would probably depend on retirements (Kaori Sakamoto is retiring, I think Anastasia Gubanova, Loena Hendrixx, Amber Glenn, and Young You could well do so, and possibly Isabeau Levito and Bradie Tennell). I wouldn't be surprised to see Maddie retire, either, but she is a bit further down the SB list.

interesting your picks for retirement. I don't think Isabeau would do so. She's still so young. Maddie is a question mark, she's also rather young but I could see it. Young You... I don't know. the others, I agree.

And yes, our skaters do need to aim for higher. However, the 1 guaranteed spot is good enough at times because with the host spot, it could mean two.

I am thinking SMD will get two spots next year.

My thinking with Isabeau Levito is that she is dropping down the ranks and may feel she's achieved what she can once she's been to the Olympics. Sophie von Felton becomes senior eligible for next season and Levito could find herself getting passed by both her and Sarah Everhardt. Young You would potentially get one GP assignment but will probably struggle for other international opportunities because she has dropped down the ranks in Korea and the twins will be old enough for seniors (and Korea normally moves their skaters up immediately). Yes, Maddie is young, but she does seem to struggle for motivation at times and she has probably achieved as much as she can. She has been more motivated this season because she has had an Olympic spot to fight for, but that won't happen again for a bit.

He made an Instagram post for the split, he is looking for a new partner so he didn't retire.

I see where you are coming from now. It makes sense... at the same time, being passed by the younger generation didn't force Brown to retirement... so I am not sure the Korean twins moving up will mean that a bunch of Korean skaters will automatically retire. I also don't think much of Sophie because she is so wildly inconsistent, the complete opposite to Isabeau. So it will be an interesting spring/summer, with lots of announcements for sure.

But, in the end, I am always more interested in ice dance retirements because it finally means some teams will perhaps move up... the wait for your turn thing.

I am interested in who will retire after the Olympics and before this year's Worlds. Cizeron will probably want the title, but Lala could find themselves with a good chance of being on the podium. I suspect that Chock and Bates and Piper and Paul won't do another season, but they might still do Worlds. I think Guignard and Fabbri may well retire at their home Olympics.

yeah... and we can celebrate their illustrious careers...

what's happening right now though is all the splits within our junior dance teams... now Brière-Lévesque... these splts/retirements are harder to swallow

Bavarian Open entries from the assignments page:

Senior Ice Dance
Robinson/Portz

Junior Men
Grayson Long

Junior Women
Megan Woodley

Junior Pairs
Quattrocchi/Lacasse
Desrochers/Thrasher

Junior Ice Dance
Homick/Buelow
Veillon/Brandys

So almost all the JWC team, with Megan instead of Victoria. Good to see Robinson/Portz with an assignment.

Damn!!
I was hoping we would complete the entire entry list for Seniors alongside Robinson/Portz that they would also send:
Women - Marie-Maude Pomerleau 167.04 (166)
Men - John Kim 219.00 (219)
Pairs - Yunoki/Taylor 164.59 (163)

I guess John was already sent to an international event. But, the other two entrants have never had an international assignment. It would have been nice to send an entry in each discipline
