2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Megan 😔
I wanted her to be chosen over Victoria after Nationals. But, then switched my mind after her recent competition. With Victoria I felt like she had a 20% chance to be top ten at JWC. With Megan, the likelihood is less than 1%. She can’t make any mistakes.
I agree. No mistakes can be made. At least in the short. She has the potential though of putting up a good score if she does what she did in nationals and doesn’t get buried in the early flights. Let’s hope for her best.

After tomorrows Team skates each CAN skater(s) will be in 5th place. Van see the CANs coming 5th in dance, Pairs and Ladies.

There were some nice pre-novice skates today at the Canada Cup. Haven’t seen them all yet (had lots of meetings today) but saw some promising skates from our youngsters. Really liked Alia Tang / Ryan Cliff pairs from Ontario. Alia looks like a natural pairs girl. Emie Deschamps from Quebec is a beautiful jumper. In men (boys) there is a strong trio from Connaught. All look strong. Looking forward to tomorrow. Yes, there is life beyond the Olympics

Oh no. If Canada comes in fifth in dance they might as well shoot themselves. But it would not surprise me. I cannot believe how horrible skating is looking for Canada. Though there chances were slim in pairs i is now almost nothing with the injury to Deanna. I love Trennt and Lia as people but they really are not exciting skaters artistically or technically. They are kind of blah. They have had the whole quadrennial to make their mark. Maybe Skate Canada needs to find a new High Performance Director. It has been a while since Canada has really developed stars. Even Piper and Paul who are long shots now it seems for a medal are kind of the old guard. EVen skaters yet to prove themselves like Stephen and Madi have been on the Canadian scene for a while. I think one of the few exciting thins is maybe Gogo doing better this year and Gabby Daleman's resurrection fromt he grave. I loved Madi's fighting words but we need to see it on the ice.

Well it looks like CAN is not even going to make the top 5 and get to skate the Team Free. Madi did OK but not the result and placement she needed. Looks more like France will make the top 5.

It was a tall order to make the long if FB/C skated for France… with Deanna and Max out too, well, lets just enjoy the short and hope the medal battles are interesting for a change
P/M placed the same as I expected SD/D too so I think it’s a moot point.

What killed us is the women, not by any fault of Maddie.

I think Nika is harder to beat right now though...just thinking of the Euros placements...

Another factor for Stephen is that he skates 2nd in the first group and the other 2 skate in the last group. Skating that early even if he goes clean he may not get good enough PCS.
Where CAN got hit is in Dance where P/P should have been 3rd for CAN to have a chance. Think this also signals that P/P will not be getting a medal. I feel so bad for them. They have put so much into this and now they are getting dumped once again at the Olympics. Maddie is also not getting any favors from the Tech panel or the judges.

I really expected Maddie to score around 67 for the SP she skated.
Also, Gubanova’s 3Lz was < not q. The placements should have been reversed.

After seeing Jia Shin’s low SP score, due to skating in the first group, it is going to be a challenge for GoGo!! The final flight skaters got much higher PCS than the first flight skaters. So, I expect that to be a factor. Also, the skates from ITA, KOR and CHN may factor in here as well.

the start order is terrible for Stephen... terrible.

I hope he doesn’t feel the pressure. If he skates cleanly and is 2nd behind Cha heading to the final flight, I would be confident he has done enough. Ilia and Yuma will probably finish 1st and 2nd.

Nika is consistent. So, passing Georgia will be difficult. But, like you said, ice is slippery.
Beating France is our target. Kevin is all over the place. Kevin can finish as high as 3rd or as low as 8th. He is the wild card. I can’t believe I might not be rooting for Kevin (one of my top 5 fave men figure skaters). But, my loyalty is to Canada.

I think P&P skated well. Should have placed 1 position higher.
L&T placed better than expected. Higher than China and USA.
Also, what more could Maddie have done. Should have placed 1 position higher.

Everyone skated well…. Now, we just have to pray for GoGo!!! 🙏 🇨🇦

Maddie's program is great, but she didn't look super fast or really deep down into her knees like some of the other women. She looks to be fighting through her combo spin a bit more than usual, and the program is just a bit more empty than some of the other skaters, with less Glide and speed. Oh well. I still thought they would have given that a higher score. Good for her for fighting for the triple triple after the off-kilter Lutz

compared to Alysa, Jia and Kaori.

not sure gubanova demonstrates better skills

You say "I cannot believe how horrible skating is in Canada" - but... I feel like I've never actually heard you say anything positive about skating in Canada - just frequent references throughout the years to how lackluster Canadian skaters are these days. So I'm surprised that you 'can't believe it...'.
