2025 Grand Prix de France Men's Short Program

Some interesting sartorial choices here.

Selevko's short program was my favourite.

Nika Egadze has some actual choreography. More focus on components is paying off for him.

Nobody including myself will deny the pure insane technical ability of Ilia Malinin, but I still struggle to see much artistic improvement from him. Not to say he hasn't improved, but more like a C->B improvement than a C->A or even a C->B+ improvement, at least to my very grouchy tastes. He relies too heavily on acrobatics and not enough transitions, body movements, and overall choreo for me to ever get invested in what he's portraying. But I am just a grouchy sleep-deprived fan and my opinions will not matter in the end

Completely agree, the arm movements were a little messy imo, and like you said - very little in terms of transitions.
I really really adore his confidence but it would be nice to see a little more care taken for the non-jump elements :ghug:

Please keep racism out of it. Thank you.

If you ask a 20 year old to choose music that allows him to show emotions on the ice what do you expect? That's the music a young adult like him likes 🤷‍♀️ he doesn't get emotional with old dusty opera songs. And he is not the singer/songwriter who expresses his personal problems in life. He just likes the music and that's it.
I am not a fan of rap music either but I think the music Ilia used for his programs this season and last season are ok for him. He brings a fresh breeze into the sport. I like that he is focussed on the sport part with all the jumps and "rotating quickly on ice skates". It is an olympic sport and not opera on ice
I agree and find it disturbing how some people in this thread resort to racism and hate for the skater at the top. More often that not it seems to also stem from anti-Americanism. In my opinion, it's completely unacceptable on this forum.

When someone expresses dissatisfaction with someone's skating, that doesn't qualify as "hate." The hate card is played all too often to silence people who merely have a different opinion from your own. I'm an American and if someone doesn't like the skating of an American, that's their right. It is not "Anti-Americanism." If I don't like the skating of someone who is from Germany, I hardly think it would fly to call me "Anti-German." Considering I'm half German, that would be amusing.

Ilia Malinin delivered a short program inspired by a video game that blended classical music with a modern one. The idea was to create a dual portrayal of a modern young man who sees himself as a warrior overcoming obstacles. It had three jumping passes with 4F, 3A and 4Lz3T as well as spins and steps awarded levels 3 and 4. Nine judges from 9 countries, including judges from Canada, Estonia, France, Georgia and Japan (direct competitors) awarded PCS ranging between 8.5 to 9.25 for composition, presentation and skating skill. Nobody in this competition received a single PCS score below 6. There was no outliers in Malinin's PCSs scores. Malinin placed first in the SP ahead of Nika Egadze of Georgia and Kao Miura of Japan.

That's what happened.
