A shout out to the first ever Abu Dhabi figure skating competition!So enjoyable and well done. Hoping they will continue in future seasons
First ISU event. They have been a regular host of a Senior B, run under a few different names, on and off over the past decade.
The inaugural edition in April 2015, when it was run under the name of the "FMBA Trophy", was a happy hunting ground for the Irish girls. Clara Peters won the
Bronze Medal in Senior Ladies, while Ciara Hoey won the 
Gold Medal in Junior Ladies. After the third edition, it took a 6 year break, and was revived for a fourth edition in March 2023, this time under the name of the "Abu Dhabi Classic". And my kid Stefania Yakovleva, who lives and trains down the road in Dubai, won Junior Ladies. Then she won it again at the sixth edition in February 2025, when it was run under the name of the "Union Figure Skating Trophy". In fact, this was her first
Gold Medal since the fourth edition, because she was struggling with an injury for most of the time in between.During the fourth edition, I took a liking to one of the skaters representing the host country, and decided to adopt her too. Elisa Westerhof is a Dutch girl whose family now lives in Dubai. And then a few months later, she did two Junior GP's. She then competed in the fifth edition in February 2024, and hasn't been seen since. But, she has a lot of strings to her bow, so she is probably concentrating on another string at the moment.
