2025 JGP Ankara Women's Short Program

Louise starts with flair, and crisp movements. Channelling Alina with the charlotte spiral jump entry; the whole programme feels inspired by Alina, but with Louise's own take on it. The flying sit spin gets away from her, but I suppose that's a risk that comes with speed and gusto. Hand on the hip, other hand in fifth in her twizzle, I like. Enjoyed this programme, and how much detail it had.

Haruna getting score that she would not be given at domestic comps is bonkers.
Girl, that is so common with the Japanese skaters. With the exception of a few "chosen ones", Japanese skaters are scored so much more harshly domestically.

I've also started noticing this with lower-ranked American Ice Dance teams, which is crazy, because the USA has such a history of overscoring their skaters domestically, but clearly the issue is more that they overscore fed-favourites to high heavens and not the "rest".

:palmf: I forgot to mention the Spanish J... but then I was already nerding out long enough on a figure skating thread. Georges has that 's' because the original Greek form of the name Georgios and the etymology of the name (georgos) both have it, but then French did what French does and decided that the s will be silent

I always got a hoot out of Camille being unisex in French, like 99% of the time you would get "it's feminine" but nope that's not how it goes in French
same with Laurence :)

That 2A was huge. Shame about the turn in the combo, but I could see it coming from the entry.
Not crazy about this program, sorry Arina. Her skating skills aren't bad at all, she's very fast, a bit unprecise at times, but her performance skills need some more work (also, better programs, please).

Arina is engaged in the performance from the outset, and appears to whizz across the ice. Holds onto the lutz landing and gets that 3T done, good job. Big loop! Unexpected music transition after the flying sit spin. Holds her free foot's blade in her first set of twizzles in the step sequence, neat detail. She's a good skater, strong and fast.

Somebody answer the phone. ☎️

And somebody get rid of these awful covers / remixes!

I'm shocked that Kalugina is only 14. It seems like she has been around for ages.

Or am I thinking of somebody else with a similar name?

She looks like a rabbit in the headlights when waiting for her scores.

She goes into 5th position.

my mind may have been connected to the stream.... i was trying to sleep and i kept hearing a phone ringing.. i came back and well.. a phone was ringing.

I am not too worried about not being able to sleep tonight because i don't work tomorrow.. i mean today... but yeah... i was planning to swim and without rest, it won't happen.

oh---le----ro

I promise that I will shut up about names but I just remembered something and I have to get it out of my chest: I once read a Korean romance novel set in a vaguely European country and the male lead's name was Metternich. I managed to go through the book but I just could not take the angsty bits seriously when the male lead was literally named Metternich
