Slllllllooooooooooooooowwwww...they are much slower and less clean in their positions than before... but maybe, my knowledge has improved LOL and I am a tougher judge... it's been a long time. Even the twizzles... which was their trademark are slower. Of course, it's their first event. They could improve.
I don't remember them a ton from when they were previously skating, but I was pretty surprised to notice how shallow her edges were at NHK. I thought that her look at the end when she started him for about almost 10 seconds, had the look of resigned acceptance that this comeback is not going to turn out the way they had wanted.
I thought she was noticeably weaker than him in terms of skating skills (I'm not saying he is out of this world) and while I agree that their twizzles were quite precise, they don't cover a lot of ice, and in general all of their patterns looked small with less ice coverage than the top teams for sure.
Maybe it's because some of the teams above them had more upbeat music and themes, but they skated to a slow piece and looked slow, whereas some teams can skate to a slow piece and have great speed and ice coverage. It was pretty clear that, sadly for them, they are nowhere near as close to the top as a lot of people thought they would be. Forget about top five in the world - at this point it doesn't look like they will be top five in the US.
