2025 Skate Canada: General Info and Pregame Chat

At least now Nina has been removed from the entry list on the ISU page. Nothing new on a replacement though...
At this point, I don't expect a replacement. When did Nina w/d ? Was it long enough to make it mandatory for Skate Canada to replace her ?
Also, they may have tried and nobody could make it. I have no idea... but 4 days before an event, I doubt we can expect a replacement

I think the news came in almost two weeks ago. Like Wednesday or Thursday of GPdF week. I remember being in France at the time.

So, all I can think of is that they invited people who couldn't come... and the back and forth with sending invites and getting answers made it too late for them to then invite the next skater available ?

It sucks for Canadian women who are pretty high on the replacement list as Skate Canada removing one skater from the top of the list would benefit their own. So yeah, I do not see why they wouldn't try to get someone.

I thought maybe if they couldn't get the first few people on the list that Kurakova would come since she's scheduled for Skate America later.

Kurakova is too far down the list for it. The next skater who would be eligible after Samodelkina, Seniuk and the Canadians (assuming Seoyoung Kim is unable to compete since she was training in Canada earlier this year and should have been assigned NHK over Ahsun Kim) is Iida Karhunen. It should be her if visa issues are causing issues with a replacement.

But the Canadians can't be chosen, since there are already three women there (and three US, and three Japan). I know there are people ahead of Kurakova, hence my saying IF they couldn't get the people ahead. My point being I wouldn't think she would decline if the offer came to her, so who knows what's going on above her.

My point is that it wouldn't be in the rules to skip Karhunen for Kurakova since I don't think she'd decline if it came down to her and she shouldn't have visa issues.

I don't disagree with that. I'm not familiar with people's visa statuses. It was just a random thought based on reading down the list and wondering why nobody filled the spot in what seemed like enough time.

Looks like they are just bad with making the announcements?

But the ISU website is still not updated, I'm perplexed.

Maybe she has been invited but for whatever reason it hasn't be confirmed and they needed to go to print in the programs?

They also have the programs of all the Canadian athletes listed and I noticed that they have Lia and Trennt's old programs. Have they gone back to those or is this just a mistake in the booklet...

They have their old programs listed on their National Team page too. They hadn't updated their ISU bio until maybe today, I think they were using the information from the bio for the program and team page.

Wouldn't Seniuk need a visa?
Depends on what kind of Israeli passport she has. If she has a regular passport, she doesn't need a visa to enter Canada, but if she only has a travel document, she needs one.
Don't ask me what exactly the difference is in requirements for getting either one (residency, maybe?) and why Canada treats them differently, I just found this out myself.

This might be a silly question, but do you know what the two digit numbers following each competitor’s name mean?

ETA: Never mind. I see it means the page number for the skater’s bio. Speaking of bios, it would be nice if they updated Isabeau’s photo in her ISU bio as the one they are still using is from at least 3 years ago when she was only 15.

This page has the information on the Israeli passports. The passport that may require the visa is under Teudat Maavar, which is a travel document and isn't recognized as a passport by all countries. There are residency requirements for applying for a first-time passport (60% of their first year in Israel.)

I think she was at worlds couple years ago. She may have what she needs

I am noticing there is no draw in the schedule for GP events this year. Do skaters start the SP in order of world standings? (I'm sure this may have been the case for several years now, but I forgot.)
