"Lyodohray" names champions
April 14, 2025
The Arena "Lyodohray" in Bohuslav, Kyiv region, hosted the Ukrainian Figure Skating Championship for the third time. This time, in addition to the masters, their younger "colleagues" - participants of the Ukrainian Championship among older boys and girls - also competed here.
In the senior tournament, only single skaters competed for the title of champion. In men's singles skating, Kyrylo Marsak (Kyiv) once again climbed to the top of the podium, having become the three-time champion of Ukraine. The 20-year-old student of Finnish coach Alina Mayer-Virtanen competed only with Serhiy Sokolov (Bohuslav), since the silver and bronze medalists of last year's championship, Ivan Shmuratko and Vadim Novikov, respectively, withdrew from the competition. Kyrylo skated a great short program, showing quality jumps - a quadruple salchow and a triple axel. His 3+3 combination came out with a blemish, but it did not spoil the overall impression. The skater performed the free program not very well. He successfully landed a quadruple jump, but then received judges' "minuses" for a triple axel and a triple loop. As a result, the champion scored 207.08 points.
Silver medalist Serhiy Sokolov performed both programs with errors and received a total of 148.69 points.
In women's single skating, 7 participants took to the ice. In the absence of two-time Ukrainian champion Anastasia Gozhva, the fight for the highest title was led by three-time Ukrainian silver medalist Taisiya Spesivtseva (Kyiv) and Sofia Hryhorenko (Bohuslav). The experienced Taisiya won the short program with a slight advantage, and in the free skate, 18-year-old Sofia presented more complex content and, although she had problems with it, won the "second round" and with a final score of 135.48 became the champion of Ukraine for the first time.
Taisiya Spesivtseva won silver again – 133.45, the bronze medal, her third in the national championships, was won by Elizaveta Babenko (Kyiv) – 125.34.
