2026-27 Japanese Pairs and Ice Dance

Reports from The Destiny show:
- IkuKo debuted their Giselle free dance. It was already so captivating wiith many unique movements.
- UtaMasa changed the samba part in their RD - the music is "Samba drums" now.
- YunaSumi skated "Lovely" exhibition and it was very lovely.

I'm really curious since I thought that the NHK selection competition (internal) was already supposed to have happened, and I'm pretty invested in who's going to be chosen... it's so exciting to see more ice dancers emerge! I do prefer and enjoy the newer cut for utamasa (even if it's still not my absolute favourite, the ISU's additional rhythm requirement is already creating some bizarre rd cuts and it's hardly the worst one), and I'm excited to see how RikaAtsu do in Quebec on Friday and Saturday. We'll see!

Very excited to see that UtaMasa, IkuKo, KahoYuu, and RikaShin will all be at Kinoshita! I'm sure it will be a pretty packed competition, but I'm glad that JSF is sending them all to it. I wasn't expecting them to let them all go, so it's a pleasant surprise to me.

I'm especially happy for KahoYuu as I kind of expected that JSF would never let them compete internationally.

yes!! they are the one I'm rooting for most right now since I also didn't expect JSF to let them go internationally, and I didn't think they'd assign them to Kinoshita either. I really, really hope they can get the third host spot at NHK this year. It would be really nice if they could participate in the grand prix series.

RikaAtsu's RD debut in Quebec:


They scored 60.83. I don't love their music choice but I think they skated well as for debut. Definitely potential is there. They struggled a bit wit aligning their bodies here and there and were a bit cautious on elements but they look good together. Rikako is so expressive, her experience in performing is very visible.

Again, not my fav music, but they look pretty strong. I was impressed how fast they skated entire program with a lot of energy at the end. They got a decent score for the first outing (84.31). Many little issues through the routine but that's very normal for a new couple in August (nobody was perfect there). This partnership looks promising.
