I have been catching up with replays. I just came on to say that I am very happy with the podium. Each of the three is a special skater with clear strengths and something of their own to bring to the world of skating. Of course I wish that everyone could have performed at their best, and then the event would feel more high level, but if you look at what these skaters are capable of it was a much stronger field than what the scores showed that night. It just wasn't a particularly lucky day and I've seen plenty examples where for some reason lots of people at the same event under performed at the same time, or over performed at the same time.
Niina - such a great return to competition, really impressive stuff from this athletic skater
. I've always appreciated her and while I was not really expecting her to defend her title (and was rooting for Loena), the outcome made me happy. The Dune program is looking better than ever.
Loena - one of my favorites, and I'm glad she got another medal for her collection. If only she could have skated the way she did at Skate to Milano, but I treasure every chance to see her while she is still competing. Her jump landings are just amazing!
Lara - another skater I enjoy watching. She has been so consistent the last two seasons and could easily have scored better here if not for those errors. Clean 3+3 in second half for the win! I appreciate her for being different, and I find it really inspiring to see her improving each season.
A few others that stood out to me.
Iida - congrats to her for senior championship debut!
Ekaterina - every chance to see her smiling at the end of a performance is precious to me. I love her expressive personality, and it always cheers me up to see her happy.
Anna - I will never stop rooting for Anna Pezzetta and her huge jumps.
Nina Pinzaronne - Not as stellar a comeback as Niina, but good work from the skater who made it possible for two Belgian women to go to the Olympic Games. Onward to better things!
