2026 Olympics: General Info and Pregame Chat

Thank you. At least they replaced Carol for Sandra Bezic for the pairs and she was giving insightful information.

Also, if anyone is watching Gem, did you find you could barely hear the music? Had to raise the volume only to be terrified when the commentators said anything since their volume was so much louder. Ugh, first world problems!!!

I'd emphasize your last sentence. First world problems. I watched on gem. I'm not a Kurt fan (as a commentator) but I really like Sandra and I find Carol funny. And yes, the music was muted. The image was great. After the initial advert, it was almost free of ads and when they came it was at a good moment. I'm glad my taxes contribute to providing me and other Canadians, great Olympic coverage not only on traditional TV which I am watching right now, but also on live streaming for full events.

I am very grateful that this option is available for me compared to what I'm reading from people in other parts of the world.

I am still catching up on yesterday. The commentator is irritating me because he has not understood the event. He thinks that whether each skater does the second half of the team event is dependent on whether they finish top 5 in their event, not on whether the team as a whole is top 5.

Shameful. How to get one of the biggest sports commentating gig of the year and not even bother preparing for it... and also, how to be completely unaware of an event seen already at 3 Olympic Games. Who's this guy ? Or is it AI ?

Simon Read (or Reed?). Louise Walden has finally just corrected him in the warm up before Maddie's skate.

Does anyone know if the ISU live stream (the one with Mark) exists for the Olympics? Have been watching the ISU feed for all previous competitions via youtube but can't find it now. Watched yesterday's team skate via CBC/Gem livestream after the fact, but as much as I adore Kurt, Carol and Brenda drive me crazy. Anyone?
I’m looking for it as well.

We should find out about Max and Deanna soon.

French CBC : they are doing a reprise of the team event and when they announced Lia and Trennt, they said " Deanna and Maxime had to w/d from the team event but will be at the pairs on the 15th. Just like that, casually. So was the commentator hopeful or wrong or whatever ?

Then I looked up another source and they said that the news will be announced Monday. Monday is in 13 minutes :) (of course, I am not expecting an announcement right at midnight: In any case, if the announcement is Monday, it sort of looks like a positive announcement perhaps ?

As the event is on the 15th, Skate Canada had said that they wanted them to have done two practices before... so the deadline was the 10th or the11th at the latest.

Fingers very crossed

ETA this morning, no news. So I am thinking the French CBC commentator didn't know for real. Waiting continues. Still no news means no bad news.

Also, I pushed back my. duties tomorrow... I will not be able to watch all the rhythm dance but I should be able to see it all but perhaps the last two couples.

Just saw a post from Devin Heroux, and we won't hear anything until tomorrow.
thanks. I trust Devin Heroux way more than the French CBC commentator who spoke out of turn yesterday :)

I am guessing (sorry for speculating) that evaluations are being made now...

I am investing all my positive energy to manifest their participation at the games. I invested all my positive energy to manifest that gold in Montreal worlds and it worked... I hope my"powers" work again :)

Point of education please. Who is Devin Heroux? He has appeared in my X feed quite a bit recently, mostly concerning curling results. Which is interesting because it's not a sport that I follow at all.

He's a reporter for CBC Sports, most of his coverage is for curling. Here he is responding to accusations of bias in his curling coverage.

I have two predictions before the singles events that I'm almost willing to bet on (hopefully I'm not jinxing).

1. Alysa will be on the podium when its all said and done. I find this fact to be really cool; no Worlds champion (in the women's event) from the year directly preceding the next Olympics has never not medaled. Coupled with her consistency, I feel like she's a shoe in.

2. Yuma will not be getting silver. From training reports and his interview quotes, it sounds like he's going for max difficulty. IMO, he's either climbing the top of that podium, or joining the likes of Slutskaya, Kwan, and Shoma with a silver, bronze medal combo.

Any thoughts? Couldn't find a predictions discussions thread so I figured here would be the best spot to throw my thoughts.
