2026 Skate Canada Trophy - Novice and Pre-Novice Championships Feb 5-8

I just finished watching the Novice Pairs.

First place team
Wow!! Marykym and Enryck were fabolous. In the interview, they won PreNovice last season and now won Novice this season with a Canadian National record of 119. The 3S jumps and 3S throw is insane for a Novice team. They just need more flow and experience in Pairs. Enryck is built like a bodybuilder (Is he @4everchan type?). How old is he? He looks like he is 17/18.

Podium Teams
The other two were solid. But, slow. The 3Lo throw attempt by the second team is wow. The bronze medalist team (I worry about his jumps and spins…. He is very elementary with those elements)

I think the top three teams are ready for NextGen and maybe Juniors next season. The size of the boys/men makes a big difference at this stage, as they can handle lifts easier. That is what I noticed.

Novice Girls
Marykym is leading the SP too!! Wow!!
The favourite T. Hebert had a rough SP. She has posted by far the best scores and has been undefeated within Quebec this season. I wonder if she will move up to first from the penultimate group of skaters. My fave, a Japanese young girl did really badly … out of the top 24. Same with Tiffany at 25th.. 😔

The other Pair Girls did decent. The one who skates with Marty… Rebecca is 7th and Brianna Dion is in the third last group I believe. I expect a lot of movement with the placements tmrw

Now…. To my last event …. Novice Men SP…. I have skating fatigue though and may skip and just watch the Novice men free skates instead tmrw

give me a break... I don't look at novices LOL

Wow!! Emma Xu was excellent!!
I wonder how many spots she is going to move up.
This free skate will be hard to beat.
She is so cute ☺️

FS - 90.92 (51.02 TES) - 125.19

Ok. Two flights of Novice Girls left to go.
Emma still in the lead by 15 points…
I hope Emma did enough to finish in top 6 (potential for international assignment)
I expect that lead will end in the next flight with T. Hebert (who might even win from 9th place). I’m looking forward to seeing how this ends. 130+ scores is usually what is required to win.

Ok….. time to go to the Olympics.
I will then watch final two flights of Novice Boys and then final two flights of Novice Girls afterwards 😝

Novice Boys

The winner was bleh!! I liked his SP though. From the same club as Aleksa Rakic. Good jumps, but, not the best skating skills.

Art - Wow!! The leg extensions after landing his jumps is world class. He almost won.

Matteo - Last seasons PreNovice winner was my favourite. Good balance of technical and artistry. Well deserved bronze medal. I think he should stay in Novice for one more year prior to move up to Juniors.

Novice Girls

Well, I was right. Tea moved up like expected from 9th to 1st. She has been on a tear this Novice season. Undefeated domestically. Only mistake was doubling the flip. She has no 3Lo or triple triple. But, she reminds me of Fee Ann Landry. Huge jumps!! @4everchan will probably like her.

It was a battle between the Quebec sectionals champion (see above) and the Ontario Sectional champion, Sofia Nazarova. The Hamilton SC packages their skaters better than any other club. I could tell this was a skater from this camp. Also, check out Emma Young (who finished lower). Great artistic skaters just like Quinn Startek.

I was elated when I saw Clare from Quebec grab the bronze medal. She has easier jumps, but, I loved her program and did you see the hop hop spin. She is a unique skater

I’m glad Emma Xu snuck into the top 6, at 4th. She looks young and moved up so many spots. The fifth place skater also had an excellent 3T 3T<.

I think the above 5 skaters, who all scored over 120, should be sent to the Novice international competition alongside Lia Cho. I just hope they enter them into a competition in March, after the Olympics.

Pairs Girls

Junior Bronze (Pairs)
Rebecca L. was great!! 6th
Novice Gold (Pairs)
MaryKim too much skating 10th (from 1st)
Junior Silver (Pairs)
Brianna - 15th

It just goes to show you how vital it is to pluck out great Novice single skater girls. It will s much easier to train non jump elements after the girls already have 2As and triples. You really just need 2A, 3T and 3S. This is why I think Jazmine and Julia will struggle once they finish their junior journey.
