4th Maria Olszewska Memorial | Feb 24 - Mar 1

If I was a cheeky so-and-so, I would suggest that Magdalena RUDNICKA / Grzegorz LAS (POL) had got their costumes mixed up. Magdalena is wearing a black top and an orange skirt. Grzegorz is wearing an orange top and black trousers.

I didn't know the first song. I know the second song, but don't know what it is called.

I loved that programme!

They and their coach are all very happy, blowing kisses to the camera and all!

And they are all happy with the scores too.

After that brief foray into partnerships, we are back to finish off the Solo Dance competitions. A group of 5 Juniors, followed by a group of 2 Seniors.

Bozhena MYCHALEVYCH (UKR) started us off with an 💃 Ole programme.

She was wearing a dresss that was mainly red, but had black sleeves and shoulder area. And she was wearing black tights.

I recognised the first piece, but don't know what it ias called. But it was followed by "Assassin's Tango".

With the way the gaps are after the Short Dance, she is not going to move up. But, hopefully she will get a score that she can be happy with.

She looked very down when waiting for her scores.

:ghug:

The first of two skaters from the MKS Axel Toruń club. Julia BERENDT (POL) was skating to "Skyfall" by Adele.

She was wearing a beautiful plain red dress. Which doesn't exactly make me think of James Bond! :p

Looks like she has hurt her backside.

She goes into the lead of both the FD and overall, but I don't think she is happy with the score.

The last of the international skaters, Liliana SOOS (HUN), was wearing a black sparkly top and black leggings.

Skating to "You Don't Own Me" (don't think it was Lesley Gore singing it, though) and "Destination Calabria" by Alex Gaudino.

Definitely the best we have seen so far.

She was less than a point and a half ahead of Julia BERENDT (POL) after the Pattern Dances, but the gap is going to really open up now.

She goes into the lead of both the FS and overall.

All three of them applaud.

The second of two skaters from the MKS Axel Toruń club. Alicja REJMENT (POL) was wearing a beautiful black dress with sparklies (very like the top the previous skater was wearing!)

Can't remember what the first song was, but it was followed by "No Roots" by Alice Merton.

That was very good too!

And the livescoring is back working!

She is very happy.

She goes into the lead of both the FD and overall.

We finish with Mira JAKUBOWSKA (POL), from KS EDGE SA Katowice, who is also wearing a black dress with more extensive sparkly bits.

I think this music is from "The Matrix" (I haven't seen any of the films, so I may be getting mixed up).

That was great.

Suffice to say, I think the trophy is heading south rather than north.

Yep. She wins both the FD and overall.

And as the scores are announced, she puts on a pair of black sunglasses. 😎

To finish off the Solo Dance competitions, and take us to the next resurfacing, it's the two Seniors.

CaroLiza_fan

Karolina LESZCZYNSKA (POL) from the local ZALF Olimpijczyk club was first up. When she came out, I did a double take. She looked just like my kid Leonora COLMOR JEPSEN (DEN) did when she competed in Eurovision!

She is wearing a white shirt, red tie, black braces, and black trousers.

Now this is something different. Blues music. But, I don't know the first song.

Gaaaah!!!! The stream died in the middle of her programme, just as the music was changing!

Right, when I refreshed the page, the second song was "Minnie The Moocher". And then it turned into "Everybody Needs Somebody" from "THe Blues Brothers".

I really enjoyed that!

And by the looks of things, so did Karolina!

Aww. She loves the cuddly toy she has been given. I think it is supposed to be a hotdog with eyes and legs.

Not sure what that reaction to the scores meant. She was surprised, but I can't tell if it was in a good way or not.

Megan PARNELL-MURPHY (GBR) is doing a "Carmen" programme.

She is wearing a red dress, and big black earrings. And I know she has connections to my island, but I would give her an automatic deduction for those earrings. (You all know I don't think jewellery should be allowed, in case it gets caught in something).

That was very good!

She's been given a model of Michael Shaidorov! 🐼

She goes into 2nd position in the FD, but wins overall.

Oh! She has been given a point deduction! I wonder what it was for.

CaroLiza_fan

And that is it for the Solo Dance.

Resurfacing now, and then the remaining competitions for Ice Dance partnerships. (Worded that way because we have already had the Adult partnership).

Apologies for taking this into a different thread to where you mentioned him, but I didn't want to distract from the serious topic being discussed over there.

The Hungarian judge at the Olympics was a man named Soós Attila.

Is Attila anything to Liliána, who finished 3rd in Junior Solo Dance here?

Just a thought that came into my head when I saw his name this morning.

No problem

It is probable that they are related, Soós with this spelling is more a unique family name, but I have no actual knowledge of any ties

Oh well. It was worth an ask.

Thank you for answering anyway.

She was good, by the way.

And now, it is time for the first of the Ice Dance Free Dance competitions. A group of 4 Basic Novice partnerships.

CaroLiza_fan

I love the costumes that Nadia SOBIECKA / Piotr CEJNOG (POL) are wearing. Nadia is wearing a lovely black dress, while Pitr is wearing ablack top and black trousers.

But this music is 🙉 A really bad remix / cover of "Sway".

The skating was definitely better than the music.

Nadia is happy with the scores anyway. She started applauding when they were announced!

CaroLiza_fan

When the music started for Kata Borbala EDES / Zebulon BAJKAI (HUN), I thought "I know this. Is it 'Ghostbusters'?"

And then I eealised It's ""Macavity The Mystery Cat", from "Cats". And I thought "How did you not realise?! For goodness sake, Kata has her hair done up in cat's ears!"

Kata is wearing what I think is supposed to be a black jumpsuit, but it has so many sparklies on it that it looks grey. Zebulon is wearing a brown jumpsuit.

All I can say is: "Awwwww!!!"

As they took their seats, their coach went "meow" to the camera, and waved her paw.

They go into the lead of both the FD and overall.

CaroLiza_fan

Sophia Elizabeth HERTL / Jachym SOUKAL (CZE) were skating to a medley of music from "Top Gun".

But, I think somebody got a bit confused along the way. Because they were dressed as airline pilots, not air force pilots.

"Top Gun" has so much great music in it that it is impossible not to enjoy a "Top Gun" programme.

Sophia looked disappointed when they arrived in the results area. But their coach was happy. (I am starting to think that I should know who she is. She's very young, so was probably competing not that long ago).

They go into 3rd position in the FD, and 2nd position overall.

CaroLiza_fan

What a way to finish the competition!

Maja KOBIEROWSKA / Mateusz WITT (POL) were skating to "The Greatest Show".

Maja is wearing a black dress with the sun on it. Mateusz was wearing a black tracksuit. Not your normal "Greatest Showman" costumes, but they worked.

I just had a scary thought. Mateusz is probably far too young to realise just how big the surname he is carrying is in this sport.

They go into 2nd position in the FD, and win overall.

Incidentally, I just discovered that these kids all have ISU Bios, and found out that Maja is the former partner of Piotr CEJNOG (POL), who will also be on the podium, on the third step.

Onto the Intermediate Novices.

CaroLiza_fan

Awwww! Lena LEZON / Mykyta LISOVYI (POL) are so cute! They look a lot younger than the Basic Novices we just saw, but they are actually older.

Not often you see a partnership where the girl is taller than the boy. I wonder if it will stay that way as they get older.

Just checked - Lena is 10 months older than Mykyta. That explains a lot.

Lena is wearing a red dress. Mykyta is wearing all black.

Really enjoyed that 💃 Ole programme.
