Wow this thread is moving fast, me likey.
Anyway, my two cents on recent developments (Eteri's comments, etc):
Alina is super smart, beyond her years in fact, and this is one of the reasons I admire her so. When she was asked about Russian flag not being reinstated for the closing ceremony she got out of that like a pro, she is a master at avoiding though binds (see further evidence on the questions about boys in Japan) and shark infested waters (people basically had to throw Ashley's comments in her face to get a quote and she answered like a pro). On Alena's recent broadcast she was as quiet as the cast of "A quiet place", not one little peep, she didn't make any effort to be in it but didn't obviously run from it either. I call that smart, genius level smart.
This is Alina's year, now more than ever, and if she plays her cards right she will be set for life. Being in the media, getting media interest, training hard (even harder than ever before), getting results, she will have her pick of coach, country and anything else she wants another year from now. She could probably have the first two right now if she needed them, but, point is, she doesn't. She loves her country (as she should), is thankful for the opportunities she has, trains with people that are pushing the technical boundaries in her sport (Eteri's comment about it being easier to run away than to catch up is genius), is still in school, should be near her family, has never been over trained (she wasn't doing crazy jumps as a little kid), and she already won an Olympic Gold Medal. All she needs to do is keep it up, and by the way she has been training these past few days we can see that her mind is in the right place. And she is not even 16 yet, imagine that.
I wish her a nice down time when she gets it (Alena seemed to mention first 10th and then 15th as quitting time), can enjoy a nice family vacation and come up fully charged to receive Masaru and all the media attention they'll both get. As an aside, I think the fact that she had a press conference about that at the Russian Olympic Committee's headquarters is a great sign of her great prospects in Russia.
